February, 22 - Last Regular Season Knowledge Bowl Mee
By: Ellen Windels
This past Wednesday, the I’Falls Team 2 took home another first-place win at their Knowledge Bowl Meet, finishing off their regular season! They once again reached a 100+ score and will move onto Regions on March 14th. A top three placement at Regions would once again send IFalls Team 2 onto the State Meet, which has been the ultimate goal for the seniors on the team.
IFalls Team 1 placed 16th with a final score of 59. It is not likely they will make it to Regions, however, this has been the first varsity season for every member of Team 1, so they have made a great showing! At the previous meet, 3 members were absent, leaving Doug Salo and Andy Davenport to gain as many points as they could for the team in the regional rankings. They managed to hold their own at that February 14th competition, scoring the highest total points in a single oral round on that day.
What’s next for IFalls Team 2? They have some preparing to do before Regions, mostly with Geography and English. Coach Zahradka has noticed an abnormal amount of questions related to Gone With the Wind and The Wizard of Oz this season, so she recommends the team spend some time familiarizing themselves with the basics of those texts. The team had some difficulties with communication and buzzing this meet, which they hope to continue to improve upon. The four seniors are able to bring up an additional member to assist with the initial written round. Only four people are able to compete during the oral rounds, but this fifth member could be an extra in case of emergency. At their next couple of practices before Regions, Senior High Knowledge Bowl will be furthering their skills and discussing which, if any, younger participants will attend.
