This week we will be hosting Back to School Night for our 1st grade-5th grade parents/guardians. This event is an opportunity for teachers to share more specific details to families about the curriculum, classroom expectations and schedule.

(To enable families with more than one child to attend different classrooms, Session 1 and Session 2 are identical Back-to-School sessions.

Universal Screener Notification
In accordance with Maryland’s Ready to Read Act (2019), COMAR (2021) and the direction from
the Howard County Board of Education, all Howard County Public School System students in
kindergarten to grade 5 will participate in the 2023 - 2024 administration of the Amplify mClass
with DIBELS 8th Edition universal screener to identify potential reading difficulties.

After Back to School Night for the first PTA meeting of the year!
Tuesday, September 12th from 7 - 8pm in the FES Cafeteria
The PTA Meeting you won’t want to miss. Dr Burks will be joining us to kick-off the school year with an informational session and discussion. This will be one of the only in-person PTA Meetings of the year and is conveniently held immediately following back-to-school night. We hope to see you there!

NAMI Basics
NAMI Basics is a FREE education program for parents and other caregivers of children and adolescents living with mental illness that provides resources and practical insights for families. The NAMI Basics course is taught by trained parents who have lived similar experiences with their own children

BSAP College and Career Opportunities Night
The HCPSS Black Student Achievement Program invites you to attend the upcoming BSAP College and Career Opportunities Night on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Long Reach High School. This College and Career Opportunities Night invites scholars in grades 8 - 12 countywide to network with working professionals, colleges, and universities, explore post-secondary opportunities, and learn more about HCPSS pathways. The evening will highlight a variety of colleges and universities as well as local businesses and organizations. To register, please complete the Registration Form linked here.

The HCPSS Black Student Achievement Program (BSAP) Saturday Math Academy Fall Session is approaching!
This year, the BSAP Saturday Math Academy will offer an in-person enrichment program for Howard County Public School System students in all levels of math for grades 3-12 based on course availability. Registration will take place online Saturday, September 16, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. until capacity is reached. Class space is limited.
