Principal's Message
Hello Lincoln Community,
As we move from September to October, the weather is creating more indoor recess times. Nevertheless, when we can be outside, our new rubber playground surface has been a welcome adjustment from the bark chips that we used to have.
Fall Conferences on October 11 & 12: Mark your calendars for Fall parent conferences, which will be held on 11th and 12th of October. Our teachers are looking forward to meeting with parents to share information about your child's learning, and our students will attend also because they are the leaders of the conferences.
Look for information that'll be sent to home next week with your student on your specific conference time and day. The paper will also provide a way for you to request an alternate time if that is needed. Further, for families with multiple students here at Lincoln, our teachers will work together to schedule conferences times that are back-to-back or at least close to the same time.
Dolphin Store Coming Soon! As we've shared previously, our school has been implementing Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS). One of the components of this program is the use of positive rewards to reinforce good behavior and promote a healthy school community.
We are pleased to inform you that starting next week, we will be launching the Dolphin Store. This will be an exciting opportunity for our students to practice their math and money skills while having fun shopping for various items. The Dolphin Store will take place before Community Time, with different days assigned for different grade levels.
As always, please feel free to send your questions or feedback to us at teresa.alfaro@woodburnsd.org or pmcdougal@woodburnsd.org. Go Dolphins!
Sincerely,
Teresa Alfaro - Principal

PBIS: Five Positives to One Correction/Feedback
One of the elements we are focusing on in our Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) program is to offer at least five positive interactions for every corrective interaction. We keep in mind the many opportunities we have to do this: greeting students in the morning and throughout the day, noticing when they working hard, seeing when they're treating others well, highlighting when they're leading and inspiring others, and mentioning it when they're being responsible.
We're finding that by focusing on a high ratio positive feedback, our students are really rising to the occasion and overall showing lots of promise with their behavior. Meanwhile, we continue to promote our Dolphins SWIM values:
- S afety first
- W e are respectful
- I nspire
- M ake responsible choices
Students and whole classes are embracing our school-wide SWIM expectations and it's exciting to see the positive leadership our students are showing with each other.
Parent/Family Volunteers
Would you like to join the Lincoln Elementary community for field trips and other special occasions? We LOVE our parent and family volunteers! Whether you'd like to help out for special events like accompanying your child on field trips or volunteering on picture day, or whether you'd like to volunteer on a more regular, ongoing basis, we'd love to have you! Here's what you need to know.
There are three steps you'll need to take to become a volunteer:
- Read this Volunteer Handbook
- Watch this safety presentation
- Complete this Volunteer Packet, your application, the online volunteer training, and an online criminal history verification information form
You will need either a driver's license or other state-issued ID for safety reasons.
You can complete your training online, and turn in your completed volunteer packet to the Lincoln office at any time during regular office hours (school days, 7:20-3:30). NOTE: it can take a few weeks for your background check to be completed, so if you'd like to accompany your child on upcoming field trips you'll want to get this turned in RIGHT AWAY. If you have questions about volunteering, please contact Amaris Chavez at amaris.chavez@woodburnsd.org, or call the main office at (503) 981-2825.
