DEFINITION OF CREDITS
College/university classes are taught in a variety of methods and offered throughout the day to serve students.
Advanced Placement (AP) College Credit
Advanced Placement is an open enrollment program overseen by College Board which allows students to take college-level courses on their high school campus. Students have an opportunity to earn college credit and/or qualify for more advanced classes when they begin college. AP exams that are administered each spring have associated fees. OnRamps-The University of Texas at Austin Dual Enrollment
OnRamps is an open enrollment program where courses are taught at the high school by high school teachers and UT professors. These courses are UT-designed college courses aligned with the expectations of leading research institutions. Upon successful completion of the course, students can accept their college hours and receive a transcript from UT. The primary purpose of OnRamps is to accelerate college student success. There may be some tuition costs associated with these courses. Dallas College (Formerly DCCCD) Dual Credit
Students may enroll in courses at any of the Dallas College campuses that are partnered with RISD or on their own high school campus. Students can take multiple courses as their schedules allow. Students must meet Texas Success Initiative Assessment 2.0 (TSIA 2.0) requirements set by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB). Courses taken on a Dallas College campus may have some costs for textbooks or usage fees. Early College High School Models
The Texas College and Career Readiness School Models (CCRSM) are open-enrollment programs that blend high school and college coursework to help historically underserved and at-risk students develop technical skills, earn college credentials, licenses, and degrees, and pursue in-demand career paths. https://web.risd.org/cte/ccrsm/ Students can take multiple courses as their schedule allows. Transfer-ability of Credits
Students are encouraged to consult with the higher education institution of their choice regarding the transfer-ability of credits earned.
Advanced Placement (AP) - Individual colleges and universities evaluate a student’s submitted AP score(s) and determine what they will accept. University of Texas OnRamps - Dual enrollment college credits are awarded on a UT- Austin transcript. To determine how UT OnRamps courses will transfer, students need to check with their potential university or college to review their policies. https://onramps.utexas.edu/what-we-offer/distance-ed/students/enrollment/
Dallas College - Grades earned in dual credit courses are placed on the Dallas College transcript. Dallas Colleges are accredited and have agreements with most public universities in the state. Colleges and universities have different requirements that vary by school, college, and institution. - Associate in Applied Science degrees (A.A.S.) for students who want to prepare for a specific career or technical field.
- Associate in Arts/Associate in Science degrees (A.A./A.S.) for students who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university.

- Students who complete college courses while in high school are more likely to than peers who do not complete these courses, to graudate from high school, enroll in college and persiste to completion in 4 to 6 years.
