Attendance Update:
Students are required to participate in Zoom instruction and complete posted assignments on remote instruction days. Teachers will record the Zoom instruction if students do not log on and post on Seesaw (K-3) or Google Classroom (4-5) for students to watch. Parents must submit to the teacher in writing attesting their child watched the Zoom lesson later in the day in addition to their child completing the posted assignments in order to be counted present.
Please view the picture below for additional attendance information from New Hanover County Schools.

A message from NEW HANOVER COUNTY SCHOOLS:
Beginning February 1, families with children 3 or 4 years old on August 31, 2021 are encouraged to apply for the New Hanover County Schools Early Childhood Education Program. Applications can be submitted online. Once a completed application is received, families will be scheduled for an interview to review the application, supporting documents, and conduct an educational screening, including a parent report about their child’s social-emotional and self-help skills. Families are encouraged to apply due to the limited number of available slots. Once all slots are filled, eligible children will be placed on the wait list.
Early Childhood Education Program classrooms are designed to provide developmentally appropriate environments where children can engage in rich learning opportunities. The Creative Curriculum focuses on development of the whole child. All preschool sites follow the NHCS calendar with some differences for professional development, home visits, and staggered enrollment. The school day is 6.5 hours long and includes a range of activities. All children must qualify in order to participate.
A Message from NEW HANOVER COUNTY SCHOOLS:
NHCS has taken many steps to ensure students are protected from sexual harassment and discrimination. As such, NHCS' Title IX Office has been working to increase awareness regarding its existence and services.
NHCS' Title IX Office and Communications Office have partnered to create this student PSA regarding Title IX reporting.

A Message from NEW HANOVER COUNTY SCHOOLS:
As part of a broader initiative to keep students safe, on February 2, New Hanover County Schools will activate the Gaggle safety management solution for G Suite in grades 2 through 12 to proactively protect students and ensure that they are safely and correctly using school-provided digital tools.
The Gaggle safety management solution uses a combination of artificial intelligence and trained safety experts to provide real-time analysis and review of student G Suite for Education email accounts. It constantly scans accounts for harmful content and alerts school officials when students show signs of self-harm, depression, thoughts of suicide, substance abuse, cyberbullying, credible threats of violence against others, or other harmful situations. With this solution, NHCS can proactively identify students who are struggling, provide support where needed, and create a safer school environment. For technical support regarding Gaggle, please contact techhelpdesk@nhcs.net.
Implementation of Gaggle is one of the numerous initiatives New Hanover County Schools is putting in place to support student safety. Complaint reporting systems Ethix 360 and Say Something are available 24/7. Tips and complaints can be sent in by phone and online. In addition, training initiatives like Bringing in the Bystander, Safer Smarter Kids, Darkness to Light, and Shifting Boundaries are working to educate students and staff on how to create a safer learning environment for everyone. Bringing in the Bystander empowers adults to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse through awareness, education, and stigma reduction. Shifting Boundaries helps students understand boundaries and behaviors that are not acceptable.
Reminders:
- Please continue to contact your teacher or the school nurse if your child has been sick, exposed to COVID, or tested positive for COVID. Students who are exhibiting symptoms or have been exposed to COVID are not permitted to attend school.
- Please try to schedule your child’s appointments (doctor, dentist, etc.) on one of their remote days so that they do not miss in person instruction.
