Current Events
Congratulations to all of our staff and students on another amazing school year! We appreciate you and our wonderful families. It has been our privilege to serve you and your students and we look forward to continuing to partner with you for their success. We hope everyone enjoys their summer break and has an opportunity to relax and enjoy time with friends and family.
Our Rockwood ESY program will start June 8th and end July 7th. Our ESY teachers are connecting with all families to introduce themselves and answer any questions as needed. Please let your special education administrator know if you have not received communication regarding ESY.
2023-24 School Year
As we look forward to our 2023-24 school year we would also like to welcome a new member to our special education administrator team - Dr. Christina Wilson, who will support Marquette High School. Dr. Wilson shares the following with our staff and families:
My name is Christina Wilson and I am excited to be the next special education administrator at Marquette High School. I am looking forward to working with the Marquette staff and with my fellow special education administrators in Rockwood. As a Rockwood resident with two graduates of Rockwood Summit High School, I couldn't be happier about the opportunity to be part of such a great district. I come to you with over 20 years of experience in education where I have worked as a teacher, instructional coach, and assistant principal. My own education includes a Doctorate in Instructional Leadership and an EdS in Educational Administration. I value education and ensuring all students have an exceptional education experience.

Special Education Foundation
SEF Accepting Applications for Kid to Camp Program:
The Special Education Foundation is now accepting applications to assist children with disabilities served by SSD to attend one or more camps this summer. Each year, the SEF provides tuition assistance to enable students served by SSD to attend summer camps. Sometimes children with disabilities cannot join their peers in a summer camp experience due to financial constraints or other hardships. SEF steps in to help young people and their families take advantage of these experiences that can sometimes be life-changing. Parents and caregivers can have peace of mind knowing that their child is in a safe and healthy place. Apply here.
Adaptive & Assistive Equipment:
The Special Education Foundation (SEF) is able to provide specialized equipment to students with disabilities up to age 21. The aim of the SEF is to enhance the education or the independence of students or to improve their quality of life. Through grants, the Foundation is able to help provide requests for specialized equipment, based on financial need, which includes:
- augmentative communication devices
- adaptive equipment
- hearing aids
- eyeglasses
Applications are accepted year-round and are initiated by the student’s teacher. Learn more about SEF’s Adaptive and Assistive Equipment program and how to apply.
