Voices and Votes: Democracy in America
Voices and Votes will be at Atlantic Cape Community College July 11-August 14, Monday-Thursdays 10 am to 7 pm, Fridays-Saturdays 10 am-2 pm, and Sundays closed.
When American revolutionaries waged a war for independence they took a leap of faith that sent ripple effects across generations. They embraced a radical idea of establishing a government that entrusted the power of the nation not in a monarchy, but in its citizens. That great leap sparked questions that continue to impact Americans: who has the right to vote, what are the freedoms and responsibilities of citizens, and whose voices will be heard? Voices and Votes: Democracy in America will be a springboard for discussions about those very questions and how they are reflected in local stories.
Voices and Votes is based on a major exhibition currently on display at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History. This Museum on Main Street adaptation will have many of the same dynamic features: historical and contemporary photos; educational and archival video; engaging multimedia interactives with short games and additional footage, photos, and information; and historical objects like campaign souvenirs, voter memorabilia, and protest material.
More information can be found here- Voices and Votes: Democracy in America

Notes From the Board
Please save the date: Saturday November 12th will be our annual auction. You will hear more about this in the coming months but wanted to get the date out to everyone as early as possible. This is our big fundraiser of the year and we look forward to everyone’s support.
Our audio visual team is working to complete some of their projects and we should see some results very soon.
Some members of the board will participate in a UU webinar next week about how to run a board retreat. We anticipate bringing the board retreat back after an absence of several years due to the Covid pandemic.
We are also making progress on our Homeschool Co-Op project and hope to have them start in at the Center in September.
Marty Quish
UUCSJS Board President
Call to Action
Clothing Donations
Place your clean contributions in the brown bin in the foyer, under the Social Justice table to the left!!
Lawn Mowing Help Needed
Our loyal volunteer lawn mower, Steve Merkel, is laid up with a neck injury. Is there anyone who is able to mow our UU Center lawn? We figure it will be about 2-3 more mowings this season.
Please contact Barbara Miller, 609-602-0940 or bcmillermusic@gmail.com if you can help.
Steve and Palma, caring thoughts from the Building and Grounds Committee are flying to you.
Eastern Service Workers Association In Need
Is there a working electric typewriter down in the rear of your closet or up in your attic that can be donated to ESWA?
One of their 2 typewriter's right-hand-margin can't reset and the other typewriter doesn't type the letter 'g'!!!
Please let Colby T. know if you have an electric typewriter to donate!
Thanks so much
Blessing Bags
This summer the children and youth in our Children's RE program are exploring service to others. Our first principle asks us to treat each person with dignity and respect. We are going to make ziploc bags of things people who are unhoused might need, such as a toothbrush, deodorant, even a snack to keep them going. But we need help collecting all the items.
Please review the sign up link below and help us make this project a reality!
Short on time? Don't know exactly what to get? You can also order directly from our Amazon Wish List!
Donations can be brought in to UUCSJS through August 21st.
Flowers for the Chalice Table
Please speak with Colby if you wish to bring an arrangement of your choosing to our chalice table for a Sunday Service.

This Sunday
The Blade Faces the Plate
Lay speaker Heather Swenson-Brilla
Some people can read a formal table setting and understand what the meal will be (ooh, a fish knife!) and most people know where the fork and knife “go” but the history of eating together contains deeper meanings of how we care for and build community with the people around us when we share food. Join Heather Swenson Swenson Brilla to find out how a social constructionist and occasional nihilist explains why red wine belongs in a red wine glass and how a proper table setting can activate your parasympathetic nervous system.
PLEASE NOTE: This service will be in person at UUCSJS and streamed live on our Facebook page. A recording will be available later in the day on our YouTube Channel.
*Masks are currently optional at UUCSJS.
