The Dolphin Whistle
August 20, 2021 Issue 3
MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL SALCIDO
Dear Dolphin Families,
This week has been a whirlwind of activity at Castro! Our 1st to 5th grade students have settled into classes and completed their first iReady Diagnostic in English Language Arts and Math; Kinder will be taking the test the week of August 31. Please watch your email inbox for more information about iReady. Students have also been practicing following “The Dolphin Way” expectations throughout the school day! I have to share that Castro’s Dolphin students are some of the nicest ever!
Next week is an important week for Castro Elementary. On Wednesday, August 25, we have Back to School night for parents. Back to School night is virtual and your child’s teacher will send you the link to their classroom presentation. We will have two sessions: 6:00 PM and 6:45 PM. This will allow parents to attend 2 different presentations if they have multiple children at the school. It is very important that ALL Dolphin families attend Back to School night because we will be sharing important information about the school focus areas for the year, The Dolphin Way expectation and recognition program, grade level information, and classroom policies.
I hope to see everyone on Zoom next Wednesday!!
Sincerely,
Mr. Salcido

Solar Panels
Solar panels across the district will save MVWSD more than $500,000 a year and provide much-needed shade for students. The Solar Panels at Castro have been constructed on the playground blacktop between Castro and Mistrall schools. The area around and under the solar panels is fenced off and the teachers and recess supervisors will be making sure students are safe and playing away from the fenced area. The fencing will be removed once the project is completed.
Fencing
The fencing around Mistral and Castro elementaries, as well as around the Castro field is almost completed. This is an important security measure for our campus. The fence should be completed by the end of the month.
Mistral Construction
The Mistral Office will be completed by the beginning of school. The Mistral parking lot will be closed, however, due to the Solar Panel project. Since there will not be parking at Mistral, street parking and traffic will be affected. Please be careful when walking from the Mistral side of campus to the Castro side.
The Dolphin Way
This is Castro’s Positive Behavior System. The school has 3 basic expectations of all Castro Dolphins:
Be safe. Be responsible. Be Respectful. Be Perseverant.
Students follow these expectations every day and across the school. The Dolphin Way matrix gives more specific expectations for each area of the school, and our students have already been taught all the expectations. The school will be translating the matrix into Spanish.
When students do not meet expectations, we reteach the expectations and assign consequences that match the expectation and help the student repair any damage created by not following the expectations. When students do follow the expectations, the staff will recognize them with Dolphin Dollars that can then be traded in for prizes at our Dolphin Treasure Chest store which will open in a few weeks.
Additional Back to School information is on the MVWSD website.
