Student of the Month
We are thrilled to announce our November's Student of the Month for their outstanding dedication, leadership, and positive influence at Myhre Elementary. These students are nominated by their classroom teacher and will be celebrated with a positive phone call home by Admin and presented with a certificate. Their commitment to attendance, academics, empathy towards peers, and following our Myhre Must Haves (Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Kind, and Be Safe) exemplify the qualities we value most in our students. These students have consistently demonstrated the essence of a role model, inspiring others to strive for excellence and fostering a culture of respect and inclusivity. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition!

Nominate a Teacher
We have amazing teachers at Myhre Elementary School! Has a teacher made a difference in your child’s life? Students and parents at BPS now can nominate an educator for the Teacher Spotlight, a recognition program brought to you in partnership with Active Life Chiropractic and several generous donors in the Bismarck-Mandan community. The purpose of this program is to provide some well-deserved recognition to our exceptional educators!
Nominating a teacher is easy, simply fill out this nomination form (which also can be found at www.activelifebismarck.com) and complete a brief survey where may describe experiences with the teacher and why you feel they deserve to be recognized. Nominations will be reviewed by the Teacher Spotlight team, and several teachers will be selected to receive a gift basket filled with awesome items and gift cards promoting self-care. Last year’s winners were treated to some pretty epic gift baskets, courtesy of the program’s many donors. Make certain to submit your nomination as soon as possible for your teacher to be considered!
We thank you in advance for your participation and look forward to hearing about the positive impact our teachers have on the BPS community!
Dress for the Weather!
As the weather turns colder, we want to emphasize the importance of dressing your child appropriately to keep them comfortable and safe. Cold temperatures can be challenging for young ones, but with the right clothing, we can ensure they stay warm and healthy during the winter months. Please remember jackets, gloves, hats, snow pants, and boots for your child.

Attendance
DID YOU KNOW...
Missing just 1 or 2 days a month makes it hard for students to:
Gain and retain reading and math skills
Build meaningful relationships
Develop life and work habits
Feel positively about school and themselves
What you can do...
- Set a regular bedtime and morning routine
- Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before
- Use the school calendar in your family planning
- Talk about and celebrate school everyday
- Keep up to date with school communication
- Create a routine for practice and learning at home
Start the school year off right!
Generate excitement by doing a countdown until the 1st day of school.
Attend open house with your child to meet teachers and classmates.
Read the school handbook for health and safety procedures.
Ask for resources to continue learning at home when needed.
Have a backup plan for getting to school such as family members, neighbors or another parent.
If your child seems anxious about school talk to your teacher, doctor or other parents for advice.
Below you will find a 23-24 school calendar to support you in planning vacations and appointments. You will have access to receive a hard copy during our Open House on August 22nd.
Parent Resources
PowerSchool
Parents and guardians can create their own PowerSchool username/password and view all children's information from one account. This account will remain the same from year to year to access their children's academic progress, attendance, and meal account information in PowerSchool. All parents will need to create a new login by entering an email address and choosing your own password.
Here's how to create a new account:
1. Go to https://bismarck.ps.state.nd.us.
2. Click the "Create Account" button.
3. Enter your information at the top.
4. Link your students to the account by entering: student name, ID, and password in the bottom section. The Access ID and Password are the same ones you used before! If you don't remember them, call or email your school secretary.
5. Once the account has been created you can sign in to the parent portal using the username and password created and see all of your students!

Standard Based Grading
Standards-based grading is an educational approach that focuses on assessing students' mastery of specific learning objectives or standards, rather than just assigning traditional letter grades. It provides a clearer picture of students' strengths and areas that need improvement. Teachers use detailed feedback and multiple assessments to track progress towards these standards. This approach aims to enhance learning and better inform both students and parents about the specific skills and knowledge being developed. Want to learn more? Click below.
Translate this Newsletter
As of 2010, 10.2% of the students in US public schools were ELL (English Language Learners). That means about 5 million parents do not speak English as their native language. Harnessing the power of translation is an essential step in helping ELL families to feel connected and included (Smore’s, 2023). You can translate this newsletter into multiple languages. The Translation Feature is powered by Google Translate. This means the quality of the translation is based on Google Translate’ s functionality.
