GRAD CLAS NOTES
College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Graduate Newsletter
Our Community of Scholars
One of the best parts about my job is learning about the incredible research and scholarship of our graduate students and faculty. The depth and breadth of work being done across our College is staggering. Often, that work is recognized and supported by external organizations. In last month's issue of GRAD CLAS NOTES, we highlighted students and faculty from Psychology and Chemistry who received grants to further their research. In this issue, we take note of our students' success in winning the ultra-competitive Fulbright awards to study and teach overseas, as well as an impressive honor awarded to one of our English faculty members.
While this third-party validation is important, the Graduate Studies Office also supports programs to fund and publicize the research and scholarship of our students. This past fall, we organized our first Graduate Student Research Symposium, which showcased the results of our Summer Research Fellowship program. This April, we will celebrate the publishing of CONCEPT, the interdisciplinary scholarly journal of graduate students in our College. In addition, I am very much looking forward to our first Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition (open to all CLAS graduate students) on March 27. You can learn more about this competition below.
We have many partners across the University to help support your career goals, including the Center for Research and Fellowships, which can help you identify and apply for research funding and awards, and the Career Center, which has a wealth of resources to help you navigate your job search.
Wishing you continued success as we march through this spring semester!
- Emory Woodard, PhD, Dean of Graduate Studies, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
