December Newsletter
Principal's Message
Dear Elmdale Families,
November was again a month of change. Earlier this month we pivoted into Level Orange on the #RestoreMB Restoring Safe Schools plan. This meant that optional remote learning began, and 2 meters distancing in-class became the goal. Shortly after that we were moved to Level Red, and all students moved to Remote Learning.
To clarify a bit of confusion, all students have now moved to Remote Learning, led by their classroom teachers. Some students have been approved to remain in school since their parents are considered Critical Service Workers. These students are still receiving the same Remote-type learning that their peers at home are receiving, they are simply doing it at school. We are providing supervision for these students so that their parents can remain at their critical service jobs.
Thank you for partnering with us during this unique learning time. Remote learning like this cannot happen without parental support. If you have any questions or concerns about the learning, please contact your child's teacher for more information.
November also brings report card season and Student Led or Parent Teacher Conferences. This year our Parent Teacher Conferences happened via phone or video conference on November 9. If you didn't connect with your child's teacher, please contact them by phone or email to arrange a time. Report Cards are all on the Parent Portal and are available as of November 27. If you have any questions about accessing the Parent Portal, please contact the school office.

An Opportunity from our School Counsellor
We recognize the last number of months have been very challenging for families. It can be difficult to help our kids navigate the uncertainty and changes due to Covid-19, especially when we as the adults in their lives are navigating the same things for ourselves.
All parents/guardians are invited to join our school counsellor, Tara Klassen, together with our school social worker, Jessica Parisien, for a Zoom event for parents on Wednesday, December 9th at 3:30pm. We will be discussing recognizing signs of stress and anxiety in children, and ways to help them cope. A zoom link will be sent out to all parents prior to the event. For more information please contact Mrs. Klassen at tklassen@hsd.ca.
Also, if you have concerns about your child’s mental health, or specific questions about helping your family navigate this time, please contact Mrs. Klassen.
We are grateful for your support and partnership as we help our kids through these difficult times.
Library
Just a reminder that our library is still available to all students to sign out books using the online sign-out system, Destiny Discover (instructions attached). You will get an email from Mrs. Penner when your books are ready to be picked up.
We are excited that our students can still use our library and to continue to grow their love for reading.
