Hi all,
A huge shoutout to all the parents and supporters who came out this week to Chicken Charlie's for the fundraiser! It was a nail-biter, but we ended with a few more marbles than Mt. Carmel. I'm crediting the awesome decorating done last week by the Varsity team for bringing in more donations from regular customers who weren't aware...I think our side looked fantastic.
Congrats to JV for winning their first game this week against Mt. Carmel! You all are learning so fast-Coach Makenna and I are impressed.
And of course, congrats to Varsity for winning in a thrilling 4-3 overtime game over Mt. Carmel. My heart still hasn't recovered if I'm being honest! As you all know, PHSFH won in the inaugural Kiwani's Cup and now the trophy will be engraved with the team and year. Once engraved, it will be located in the front office for everyone to see your victory.
Our fan cards were a hit at the game! Thank you to the booster club for helping organize these cards.

Please see below for the practice/game schedule for the next two weeks. Some dates I'll go more in depth on:
- Tuesday 09/12 - Game vs Scripps Ranch. We have a bus! Players (JV & Varsity) will be released from class at 1:30pm and the bus will leave at 1:45pm. This means bring everything you will need for the game with you to school.
- Wednesday 09/13 - Practice. We have a pasta party afterwards (separate JV + Varsity). I've adjusted practice to start at 6:00pm and end at 7:30pm for this reason. We will start on the track and get on the field after football is done.
- Friday 09/15...surprise! no practice! Please enjoy the homecoming football game.
- Monday 09/18, Practice. I've left as TBD as this day is a non student day. I'm trying to work out times for an earlier practice because of turf availability AND for Varsity Yearbook reshoots AND a special game/event hosted at Petco Park for field hockey players (flyer attached below). Please read the flyer and click the link below to fill out the google form. I'd like to see how many people are interested before I commit our team to going. Stay tuned!
- Saturday 09/23, UCHS Tournament. It's coming up! I have not received a schedule yet. As soon as I do, I will let you all know.
Fair Share update:
As mentioned previously, Field Hockey at Poway High School is self-funded. We have intensified our efforts to raise money for the current season, while also planning for future purchases of uniforms, equipment, and supplies. Recently, our board was successful in negotiating a partial stipend for coaching expenses, and the school has agreed to pay for 1 of the weekend tournaments this Fall.
That said, our largest fundraising effort is the Fair Share donation we're requesting from all player's families. Thank you so much for those who have already submitted your donation. The recommended $375 amount is greatly appreciated, as we understand there are a lot of expenses at the beginning of the school year. Payments can be made by personal check or PayPal.
