During the summer, Strongsville City Schools participated in the USDA Farms to Families Program. 84,000 pounds of fresh produce was distributed to families in our District and community throughout this weekly program. Special thanks to the following who assisted and supported this summer program: Strongsville Kiwanis Club, United Church of Christ, Strongsville City Schools food service department, Strongsville Middle School custodial department, Strongsville City Schools teachers and staff who volunteered to distribute produce boxes, Church Street Ministries, Strongsville Food Bank, and our preferred produce distributor “Premier Produce”.

Our teachers and staff have completed the first week of Remote Learning 2.0. What can students at our middle school and high school expect over the next few weeks in this learning environment? Mrs. Erin Barbour is beginning her fourth year at Strongsville City Schools. Mrs. Barbour has worked at the Early Learning Preschool, Kinsner Elementary, and is currently the Art Teacher at Chapman Elementary. She earned her undergraduate degree in Art Education from Miami University and her graduate degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Dayton.

“Having lived in Strongsville for most of my life, I am proud of this community and am honored to be a part of the lives of the children in my neighborhood. Not only did I grow up in Strongsville, but I now live in the same neighborhood as the students I teach! As an Encore teacher, I am privileged to work with almost 400 students at Chapman. Watching them grow and develop over the years is my favorite part of teaching,” said Mrs. Barbour.

She added, “Chapman is such a unique and collaborative learning environment. My students’ diverse needs challenge me to seek innovative ways of inspiring creativity. You never know what you’ll see when you walk into my classroom. I absolutely love introducing my students to as many different types of art media as possible and enjoy watching their creativity evolve as they grow over the years.”

Even though we are beginning the school year in Remote Learning 2.0, please note the following immunization requirements from the Ohio Department of Health. Proof of these immunizations need to be on file in our Health Services Department for incoming 7th & 12th grade students:

All students entering 7th grade need to receive the following immunizations prior to entering 7th grade:

One (1) dose of Meningococcal [MCV4] vaccine

(A second dose of meningococcal vaccine will be required prior to entry into the 12th grade)

One (1) dose of Tdap [tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis] vaccine

All students entering 12th grade need to receive the following immunizations prior to entering 12th grade:

Two (2) doses of Meningococcal [MCV4] vaccine

Incoming 7th and 12th graders will need to show proof of having received these vaccines before they return to school for the 2020-21 school year (exemptions are provided for under law, call for more information).

Strongsville City Schools Health Services

Section 3313.671 of the Ohio Revised Code states that students who do not provide documentation of this immunization will be excluded from school on the 15th day after entrance, until proof is provided.

Congratulations to SHS Junior Nicole Bodean who is representing Strongsville and District 7 in the Ohio House of Representatives Student Art Exhibit at the Ohio Statehouse. Nicole’s artwork joins 99 other students highlighted in the Verne Riffe Center and Ohio Statehouse connector hallways. The exhibit will continue to be on view until Spring 2021 during the Vern Riffe Center for Government and the Arts business hours.

The SCS Transportation Department misses our students! They recently created a video to make sure our students know they are thinking about them. Click HERE to view the video - they “can’t wait to get on the road again!”

During Remote Learning 2.0, breakfast and lunch is still available for families in our District. Each Monday, an email will be sent for the upcoming week. Families can choose either a Wednesday pickup (for Thursday and Friday meals) and/or a Friday pickup (for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday meals). Meal pickups will occur at your student’s school.

Even in these uncertain times, the Strongsville Instrumental Music Boosters (SIMB) is working hard to support the needs of our student musicians. SIMB is the 501c3 organization that provides direct support to our music program through the purchase of music, instruments, music stands, repairs, guest clinicians, and performance fees.

This summer, SIMB was working to keep all involved in the music program healthy and safe, by providing consumable and durable items to help protect our students and staff. SIMB purchased and donated plastic dividers for the band and orchestra classrooms at the high school and middle school. They donated cases of masks and gloves, as well as infrared thermometers for our music department, athletic department, and the school district.

The SHS girls varsity tennis team has started the season 6-1 and now have new tennis courts for their home matches. The six courts were recently completed and are a fantastic upgrade for our tennis program. The tennis courts were one of the additional projects funded by the $81 million bond issue passed by our community in 2012, as a result of cost savings on the original construction projects. You can check out the new courts, just outside of the east end of Pat Catan Stadium.

When students return to classes at the high school, Strongsville will have a Spirit Shop located at SHS.

"The Derby" is a collaboration between the Special Education Department, CareerTech, and Business Department with the goal to create a school-based enterprise that will allow job training, collaboration, creativity, and inclusion within the school and community. Students at Strongsville High School identified with special education needs will be collaborating with their non-disabled peers, to plan, develop, and create items for school spirit wear. Together, we are creating one environment for ALL.

You can support “The Derby” through a 50/50 raffle hosted by Mootown Creamery in Berea on Tuesday, September 1 from 5 - 8 pm. Mootown Creamery is committed to giving back to communities through hosting a raffle during their weekly Cruise-in event. Strongsville High School's "The Derby" has been selected to be their community group on September 1. Come on out to enjoy cars, ice cream, music, and donating to the 50/50 raffle to benefit "The Derby."

Our Instructional Technology Department and Curriculum Department have partnered in the creation of the 'SCS Tech Corral.' The site includes reference guides and 'how-to' videos for a number of common programs and software our students and teachers are utilizing, Chromebook information, and a 'Live Tech Chat' (available during school hours) to answer your questions. Strongsville Chamber of Commerce – 52nd Annual Golf Outing

The Strongsville Chamber of Commerce will host its 52nd Annual Strongsville Chamber Golf Outing on Friday, September 25, 2020 at Shale Creek Golf Course in Medina. Registration begins at 8:30 am followed by a shotgun start at 9:30 am. The scramble-format outing also includes a boxed lunch, dinner following golf, skills contests and prizes.
