- If you are applying to a 4 year college/university, make a list of 3-7 colleges to apply to (make sure the school has your major)
- Be sure to include a safety school
- Review and Apply for Financial Aid (see details below)
- Apply for Scholarships
Top Reasons Students Attend a Community College
- California Promise offers free classes. Other fees are less expensive then a 4 year university.
- Course schedules are flexible, with day and evening classes offered to working students.
- Offers two types of programs:
- Transfer Program to a 4-year school –credits earned transfer to a University.
- Trade/Technical Program to obtain a certificate of training in specialty areas such as drafting. Credits will not transfer to a 4-year university.
You can log into the California College program by going into MY CNUSD, select 9-12, select California Colleges. Please sign in with the google account. For step by step instructions, click HERE!
CNUSD uses the California Colleges program to help make your life easier.
You will be able to use this program to launch your UC, CSU, and FAFSA applications. The benefit of using this program it will allow you to keep track of all of these applications in one spot. For the CSU app, California Colleges will upload your grades and classes to your application so you don't have to. This saves you so much time. It is also a good tool to help you with college, scholarship and career searches.
College Admission Exams
UC and CSU do not accept SAT/ACT for admission. Please check requirements for private and out of state universities.

University of California College System
- Application is open now
- Please launch your UC app through California Colleges account, click HERE for instructions

- Submit your application Nov. 1 –30th.
- UC will not take late applications!
- $80.00 for each UC Campus to which you apply
- Fee waiver for applications are built into the application, if you qualify you will get 4 free apps.

- Requires personal insight questions
- Make sure the school offers your major
- If possible, visit schools before you make a final decision
- After you apply
California State University
- Application opens October 1st
- Please launch application through your California Colleges account, click HERE for instructions

- You can submit, Oct. 1 - Nov. 30th
- CSU will not take late applications
- $70.00 for each CSU campus to which you apply

The majority of private schools require a counselor letter of recommendation and two teacher recommendations.

Important Reminders
- DO NOT use your CNUSD email to communicate with colleges. You will not have access after graduation.
- Use an appropriate email address.
- Colleges and universities will send most communication via email.
- CHECK YOUR EMAIL at least TWICE a week.
- Check spam and junk folders.
*****Financial Aid Steps******
- Log into California Colleges. Click HERE for directions.
- Click HERE to watch video with steps to complete your financial aid application.
- Complete your financial aid application from December through April.
- Follow up with your web grants account, and check your student aid report (typically sent by colleges you applied to in March and April).
- If you have questions about your financial aid package, check with your college's financial aid office.
