North Star College Students Start Aug. 28!
Time is quickly approaching for our students to be transitioning to the UAF campus for their first days as North Star College students. We are very excited to see them in their courses and taking those first steps exploring their future endeavors! We want to thank all of you for attending our parent orientation and assuring that your students were here for their big day of learning, as well. We had a full day of information/presentations coming at them, but many have been already handling the demands of navigating college schedules, the campus, and purchasing textbooks with ease. If not, we're here ready to support whether you call, email, or stop by in-person. Help make sure your students are prepared ahead of time and ready to arrive EARLY to campus prior to their 8:00am DEVS class on Monday morning. We look forward to seeing each of them.

Everything BOOKS---Helpful guides to purchasing!
How do you know what books you need?
1) Go to the following link for the UAF Bookstore
2) Along the top of the screen, click on “Textbooks”
3) Be sure Fall 2023 is chosen as the term
4) Choose “Shop by Course ID”
5) Enter each CRN (course registration number) for each UAF class
6) Click on “Find Materials for X Courses” button
7) The book list will populate and there is a print list option at the top
Now that you have your list, how do you purchase them?
Textbooks can be purchased online at: https://www.bkstr.com/alaskafairbanksstore/home
Under "Sign In", click on "Create Account". You will need your UAID to add into the "Agency Pay" section. Each student has a maximum of $750 loaded to their account. If your textbooks are over this amount, please contact Stacey Kennedy to request your account to be increased before your purchase.
The bookstore is located in Constitution Hall if you would like to purchase your books in person. For the week of August 21, textbooks can only be purchased upstairs in the Spirit Shop. For store hours, click here.
Our recommendation is to NOT load any book purchased codes until after attending your first class to assure it's done correctly.
PLEASE NOTE: The textbooks have already been purchased for the required DEVS class all students are enrolled in, the required Political Science class seniors are enrolled in, as well as Spanish 101X. You do NOT need to purchase for these four classes.
Graduation Ceremony Information
NSC students will have their own ceremony up on the UAF campus on Monday, May 20 at 7:00pm in Davis Concert Hall. The diploma will say North Star College.
Students will walk in our ceremony, but can also choose to walk at their area attendance school for this year only. That decision to choose to walk at their area attendance school has to be organized by the student and that school.
FNSBSD Free and Reduced Meals Application
We've communicated with all students, as of 8/28/23, that we do have a bagged breakfast/lunch combo option for those students who qualify for Free/Reduced Lunch. Students are welcome to walk through our NSC office space and pick them up daily, as needed. This is the current option we are offering for those students who qualify until we can get a more accurate number of those students who will be seeking this service consistently. Parents, please make sure that you've filled out the application, if needed, so we have accurate student records for this current school year.

The Polar Express card is the official UAF photo identification card used by students which includes: student name, photograph, and UA ID #. A central database holds all information on this card which allows for things like: library check-outs, computer lab access, Student Recreation Center, etc. You can deposit money into your "Bear Bucks" account to then be used on dining services, photocopiers, etc.

Disability Student Services at UAF
Does your student experience a disability and related barriers in academics or accessing campus? Your student may register with Disability Services (DS) and request accommodations to address those barriers.
Please see the registration process below for your student. The Registration Form link will take students to a DocuSign page, which automatically goes to the Disability Services email when completed. This will prompt Disability Services to follow up with the student for medical documentation. If students do not have documentation readily available, they can assist them in connecting with the appropriate resources.
To register with Disability Services and receive accommodations, the process is as follows:
Documentation
1.) Fill out and submit the Registration Form. The Registration form covers a broad range of information. Some things may apply to you, the student, and some things may not, don't get hung up on any one question. You may skip any of the questions you feel do not apply to you. There are no right or wrong answers.
2.) Provide documentation from a medical provider stating your disability, diagnosis, and/or symptoms you experience. Alternatively, your provider may complete the Disability Verification Form. If you have any questions about medical documentation and how to access it, please let them know.
Register for classes
Because accommodations may be course specific, we expect you to register for classes prior to scheduling your initial meeting with Disability Services.
Meeting
Once Disability Services has received both the registration form and documentation of the disability and are registered for classes, they will schedule an initial appointment. This is a collaborative meeting where they will gather more information about your student's case and work with your student to establish accommodations to match their diagnosis and experience.
Accommodation Letter
At the conclusion of the initial appointment a letter will be drafted and emailed to your student for your student to share with their instructors as needed. Please note that your student is responsible for contacting Disability Services to renew your letter every semester.
This initial process could take 2-3 weeks to complete. Contact them TODAY, if needed!

How to schedule advising appointments with NSC/UAF?
In order to seamlessly schedule an advising appointment with Lexi Amstutz, please have your students do the following:
1) Download the student Navigate app, choose UAF and log in with UA credentials
2) Choose the Advising icon from the main menu
3) At the top, touch the “Meet Your Team” tab
4) Click on Alexis (Lexi) Amstutz
5) Follow prompts to choose your preferred advising time and method of meeting (in-person, phone or video conference)
