BASH NHS Student, Jack Albright, Hosts 1st Kindness Walk on May 18th
Written by Jack Albright, BASH Class of 2022
On Wednesday, May 18, Jack Albright, NHS Officer, hosted the first-annual BASH Kindness walk. Under the guidance of Mrs. Smerecki, signs were made by the SADD club, a banner was sponsored by Pottstown Health and Wellness, and other NHS members helped. to set up in Memorial Stadium. Thanks to their efforts, the walk was a tremendous success.
Throughout the school day, Boyertown Area Senior High teachers were invited to take their classes out to walk around the track. Students were able to view the banner and signs with kind messages hung around the stadium. The walk served as a great break from the stress of school and exams and really helped to give students the chance to relax and focus on their mental health.
Mental health is so very important, and this is only the beginning of breaking the stigma. Being kind to yourself and those around you is of the utmost importance, and this walk helped to remind our community of that.

A Final Message from MSW's What's So Cool About Manufacturing? Advisors
On Wednesday, May 18, 2022, our MSW WSCM team travelled to PA's State Competition along with 22 other schools.
A Message from Mr. Rothermel and Mr. Magro, MSW WSCM Advisors:
When the ceremony was all said and done, five of the 22 teams received awards. While MSW was not among the award winners, we do want to recognize the efforts of our team members: Colton Hensel, Kailey Reinboth and Mason Shallcross. This team utilized their individual strengths, whether it was on screen or behind the scenes, to produce a video that is certainly memorable and one that can make the community proud. This was synergy at its finest!
Congratulations to this amazing team! #BEARProud
Diesel Engine Project Revs Up for BASH Students
Written by Andrew Schopf, Technology and Engineering Department at BASH and Freshman Academy TSA Advisor
The Tech R&D: Engineering class here at BASH was able to start the diesel engine that they have been working on all year. The students were very excited to see it run. This project began in 2019 but was hindered by COVID in 2020 and the lack of in-person learners in 2021. That means that this year's class had to finish something that was started three years ago without access to any of the previous students for advice or answers to questions. Here is an overview of the project:
Initially, the students were tasked with finding a used engine, making it run and reliable, and then repurposing it into an electric generator or mobile power unit within the school year.
Due to covid, the 2019-2020 class had the engine about 50% dismantled when school was shut down and could never put it back together. That class was primarily senior students.
The 2020-2021 class only had two in-person learners who worked very hard to organize the parts from the previous class and install what they were able with minimal resources.
This year's 2021-2022 class was tasked with reassembling the engine, designing and building a mobile stand for the engine, and ultimately making it run. It was quite an undertaking considering these students were freshmen and sophomores and were not in the class when the project began. They designed the parts for the stand using SolidWorks 3D Modeling software and then used the welders and plasma cutters purchased by the Foundation for Boyertown Education to weld them together. The wooden pieces were cut and assembled with tools and equipment also purchased by the Foundation and the memorial gift donated in memory of Charles "Roy" Herb.
Reinstalling the parts from the previous classes was a very tedious process, but our students persevered and were ultimately successful.
All the used engine parts were cleaned and inspected, sand-blasted and painted, then reinstalled on the engine.
Many parts were donated by Wengers of Myerstown and Martin Stone Quarries.
The engine is a Cummins 12 valve diesel and was originally installed in a 1991 Case International 5130 tractor.
This project is the embodiment of problem-solving and practical application. These students worked very hard, and I am proud of their work ethic, perseverance, and accomplishments.
Thank you to everyone who made this project a success! #BEARProud

Rotary Clubs Seeks Host Families for Foreign Exchange Students
The Boyertown Rotary Club is looking for families to host foreign exchange students for the 2022-2023 academic year.
Are you interested in learning about cultures outside the U.S.? Have you ever been interested in learning a foreign language? Are you interested in helping to spread understanding and peace? Then you might be a good candidate to host a foreign exchange student. The Boyertown Rotary Club is looking for several families to host an exceptional high school exchange student for the coming school year. We are looking for a commitment of 3 months from each family. The bonds you make during this brief time often last a lifetime.
You do not need to have high school-aged children to host. All we ask is you provide room and board for the student as well as a supportive environment and an inquisitive mind. You and your family will get so much from this program. The student will arrive as a stranger but will quickly become a member of the family.
This program is made possible through the cooperation of Rotary Clubs worldwide. The Boyertown Rotary Club has brought foreign exchange students to the Boyertown community for more than 40 years.
We also provide the opportunity for Boyertown students to study abroad. We will be sharing more information about that program this fall. The Rotary Club is made up of your friends and neighbors, and we are here to support you. Although you will be hosting the student, we are right here to help and assist you.
To find out more contact Larry Farmer at larry.farmer@boyertownrotary.org or 610-246-4530. To learn more about the program, please visit https://www.exchangestudent.org.
