This Charles Dicken's quote pretty much sums up the current state of play in our world at the moment, well, for me anyway! The real question is what will it be for each of us?
The last couple of weeks have been quite the journey, with information and expectations changing rapidly. I have done my best to keep you up to date and hope that you have felt informed about what has been happening in our school. Schools officially close today, that means next week, students should not be attending school unless both parents/carers are leaving home each day to go to work for essential service as frontline workers and you have no other means to provide supervision. If you are working from home, your child should be at home with you. This decision, endorsed by the Catholic Education Office, has been made to prioritise the health and wellbeing of the WA community. It is based on the best national medical advice so please ensure your circumstances meet this criteria if you have indicated your child will be at school.
At this moment in time, I am still waiting for clarification around the operation of OSHC in the vacation period. I am aware that this is a need for some essential workers in our community. I will do my best to keep you up to date when the information is known.
I must again acknowledge the wonderful Orana staff for all their efforts in recent weeks. Many could have chosen to isolate for valid reasons but did not, to ensure continuity for the students in their care. They have put in a great deal of extra time to ensure our online platform was ready for this eventuality and I could not be more proud of them. They have been proactive rather than reactive resulting in a fairly seamless transition to the online learning platform. Students will receive work from their teachers daily until Friday, April 3, after this time students are on holidays, however that may look for you and your families! Please ensure that your child is attending to their lessons so that we minimise the impacts from an educational perspective in this period of flux. The new school term commences Wednesday 29 April but at this stage, it isn't known if it will be face to face instruction at school or whether it will the continuation of online learning, I will keep you posted!
I would like to thank the numerous parents/carers who have popped in this week with cards, chocolates, pizzas, coffee vouchers and assorted goodies to raise the spirits of staff. Your support and kind words have been amazing and I know have left an indelible mark on the heart of all recipients - thank you all so much.
As we head into this most Sacred time of the Liturgical year, the Easter season reminds us all that trusting in God will pull us up even from the depths of despair.
On behalf of the Staff of Orana we wish you a safe, and joyous Easter. Look after once another and remember to check in on those you love - a physical distance doesn't mean you cant still connect with others - you just need to be more inventive!
