Hello Schluter Families!

Welcome to Spring Break! It was a wonderfully full week with our Open House on Tuesday, Donuts with Grownups on Thursday, and our book fair all week long! Our students and staff are all ready for a great Spring Break!

After the break, we will soon host our annual Career Fair! I hope you consider sharing your interesting careers with our students. They get so excited to learn about new careers that they may not know about. If you are interested, we'd love to have you! Please see the graphic below and reach out to our counselor, Mrs. Martinez for more information.

I hope you and your families have a Spring Break filled with fun, relaxation, and quality time with loved ones. We look forward to welcoming our Spurs back on Wednesday, March 22nd.

Have a great spring break! Students are off from March 13 to 21 before resuming classes on Wednesday, March 22. While staff will be at schools on March 20 and 21, responses may be delayed as professional development will take place to prepare for the return of students.

As the fastest-growing school district in North Texas, Northwest ISD has added an average of 1,200 students per year for two decades. During the 2021-2022 school year, Northwest ISD added more than 2,500 students. To keep pace with growth, the 2023 bond referendum would provide space for 8,400 students in the coming years. In the ALL-NEW Wonder program at @CampInvention children will become innovative entrepreneurs as they design their own mini pop-up business, create a one-of-a-kind MimicBot™, build a mini skate park and become confident event planners. Did you know that Northwest ISD offers a telehealth service for students? In addition to on-campus nurses, our district offers SchoolMed telehealth services for additional services. Are you registered to vote in the May 2023 elections? If not, you have until April 6 to register! Texas residents can register to vote at www.votetexas.gov. Northwest ISD will hold a bond election with three propositions as well as a school board election with three positions on the ballot. Be sure to check your local municipalities for any other local elections!

Northwest ISD’s comprehensive high schools – Byron Nelson, Eaton and Northwest – will each host their annual spring plant sales in April, providing students, parents and community members with the opportunity to buy inexpensive plants and benefit local education.

This year, all schools will host their plant sales for two days only. The annual sale will take place from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, April 14, and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 15. Sales will be conducted in each school’s greenhouse. Byron Nelson is located at 2775 Bobcat Blvd. in Trophy Club, Eaton is located at 1350 Eagle Blvd. in Haslet and Northwest is located at 2301 Texan Drive in Justin.

Northwest ISD’s Expo returned as an in-person event this year, with more than 1,100 students presenting their school projects to friends, family and community members! Expo provides students the opportunity to present their educational projects and communicate their innovative ideas. See photos from the event on the district’s Flickr gallery.

The Roanoke Public Library now offers free library cards to all Northwest ISD students and staff enrolled or working at any district campus. No guardian signatures are required for students 16 years of age or older who apply for a card. Cards must be renewed by October 1 annually. Following school board approval, attendance boundaries are now set for the 2023-2024 school year. Families of any school affected by boundary changes received direct communication during the process, while families schools unaffected by boundary changes were left off this communication to avoid any confusion. To read about the boundary changes, view this news article. Additionally, families can input their address with the interactive school zone locator to verify their schools next year.

Please be aware that school start and dismissal times will change at the secondary level during the 2023-2024 school year (not this school year!). These changes will provide more time between school days at middle and high schools, which will improve traffic flow across the district. Do you feel like you’re getting too many texts or emails from ParentSquare? Just want notifications in the ParentSquare app? Change your communications preference to meet how you want to receive messages!

Families in Northwest ISD have full control of how they receive ParentSquare messages. To change your settings, sign in on the ParentSquare website and hover over your profile’s name in the top right corner to select “My Account.” From there, click “Notification Settings” on the left sidebar and turn on or off any message format (email, text and app) and whether you receive notifications instantly or each evening (in the “digest” option).

Did you know ParentSquare provides families with the ability to set their preferred language? If the primary language in your household is not English, you can change the settings to receive all ParentSquare communication (include messages, emails, texts and more) to whatever language you prefer. This provides machine-translated posts and messages requiring no work on either you or your campus! Read how to change this setting in this how-to article.

Northwest ISD uses MySchoolBucks for meal accounts, and families can actively monitor their students’ available money or add funds to their accounts by visiting www.myschoolbucks.com.

For students who meet federal requirements, school meals may be provided free or at a reduced cost. To receive this benefit, a student's parent or guardian must fill out the free or reduced-cost meal application and be granted admission into the program. While students in the program receive the same benefits briefly at the start of the following school year, the application must be completed annually to continue receiving the program's benefits. For any student who received benefits from the free or reduced-priced meal program in 2021-2022 but has not yet applied and been granted its benefits for the current school year, regular costs are now in effect.

In order for benefits to continue, an application must be completed and returned and free or reduced-price meals will continue to be provided, if the student qualifies. The application can be completed at this link. Paper applications are also available at all Northwest ISD campuses. Northwest ISD paraprofessionals are receiving an increase in their starting pay following unanimous approval by the school board! Beginning immediately, Beginning with this week’s paycheck, the minimum wage for an hourly Northwest ISD paraprofessional staff member will increase from $12.50 to $15 per hour. Additionally, the minimum wage for bus monitors will increase to $14 per hour.
