Principal’s Message
Dear Stonegate Families and Caregivers,
I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. As we come to the close of the first quarter of the school year, I want to thank you for your outstanding support and active involvement during the first quarter of this school year. As we mark the end of these initial months, I am filled with gratitude for the incredible sense of community that exists within our school.
The first quarter has been filled with an array of exciting events, enriching activities, and joyful moments. Your enthusiastic participation in our school activities, your willingness to volunteer, and your commitment to your children's education have significantly contributed to the positive atmosphere at Stonegate. Your dedication has not only made a difference in your child's life but has also enriched the entire school experience for everyone.
As we move into the next quarter, I am excited about the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. With your continued support and active participation, I am confident that we will continue to provide our students with a high-quality education and a nurturing atmosphere that promotes their overall development.
Thank you once again for your dedication, enthusiasm, and commitment. I look forward to the continued success of our students and the many more wonderful moments we will share together in the coming months. Finally, I would like to give a huge SHOUT OUT to Jillian Curry Roberts and Milan Wolfe for planning Pumpkins and Plaid. It was spectacular! What a blast we had and so much fun!
Warmly,
Linda M. Jones
Principal, Stonegate Elementary
Stonegate SGA
The Stonegate SGA would like to send a heartfelt thank you to every single person that made Pumpkins and Plaid possible! We had such an amazing time and appreciate your support!
We collected so much food during our Food Drive! We are grateful to be part of such a generous school community.
Kindly,
Ms. Jillian Curry Roberts and Ms. Milan Wolfe
Native American Heritage Month
Every year on November 1, Native American Heritage Month is celebrated to honor the remarkable Native Americans who have contributed a lot to improve the character of the nation, and to call attention to the culture, traditions, and achievements of the nation's original inhabitants and of their descendants. This month allows us to spread awareness about tribes or to educate people about the various challenges faced by the Native Americans in the past and today. Throughout this month, we commit to keep on supporting the remaining Native American tribes and let the world know about their sacrifices.
Stonegate Multicultural Night - Thursday, November 9th
This week, we will celebrate our school’s diversity! Come out to enjoy some fun and engaging dance performances, storytelling, the amazing Shark Showcase (parade) of cultural attire and apparel, and cookies & treats from around the world.

Also, we need a few volunteers to help set-up/clean-up and facilitate the parade. Please sign up here if you can help. We hope you join in the fun and important event to enrich our school community!
Honoring Our Veterans
This Friday is Veterans Day and an important day to say "thank you veterans" as we show appreciation to members of our military, past and present. Stonegate is creating a slideshow of our active military and veterans within our Stonegate families. This slideshow will be shown during Friday morning’s Coffee with Caregivers event before the Open House.
Please send a photo of your active military and veteran in uniform to Mason_G_Knuth@mcpsmd.org by Wednesday at 8 pm to be included in the slideshow.

Toys at Stonegate ES
At Stonegate, toys are only allowed when:
The class has earned an incentive
The toy is not a distraction from learning
The teacher and parent have an understanding about the toy.
Spirit Days-when students can bring in their stuffed animals
Toys should NOT be at outdoor recess or in the cafeteria. Students may misplace or lose toys. This rule also applies to trading cards, like Pokemon cards.
Stonegate is not responsible for missing or lost toys. Toys can be confiscated by the teacher or administration if the toy distracts from learning after staff reminders.
Saturday morning STEM Clubhouse
Join us at our upcoming Saturday STEM Clubhouse where we will be working on all new projects that incorporate a micro:bit with coding projects in Scratch. Younger coders will create a game of their own design in Scratch and will then try their hands at engineering by creating their own game controller using a micro:bit.
At each Clubhouse, we will be working on creating a game, such as a car race or guiding a space shuttle, that incorporates the micro:bit as an external controller. Children are encouraged to follow their own ideas and passions while designing and animating their projects.

Upcoming Field Trips
We are learning every day in school and on field trips! Here is a list of planned and upcoming field trips. This list will continue to grow as additional trips are planned and more details are finalized. We want to thank our PTA for sponsoring several trips so our students can enjoy them for free!
Permission slips are coming home with students. Please check your student’s folder and return the permission slip.
For field trip payments, we encourage online payments at https://mcpsmd.schoolcashonline.com/ School Cash Online is MCPS’ online payment system. Cash or checks payable to Stonegate Elementary are also accepted, but for safety and security purposes, online payments are preferred.
Students will not be denied the opportunity to attend a trip due to financial hardship. If you need to make special arrangements to cover the cost of the trip, please contact your child’s teacher via email or note.
Clothing To Cash Recycling Program
Clothing to Cash® is a program that collects new and used clothing, shoes, sheets, towels, and all textiles and pays the school for every pound collected. As your child is outgrowing clothes, don’t throw those clothes away, give clothes a second life by donating them to Stonegate.
This recycling program is a win-win! It’s free and convenient for families and also serves as an ongoing fundraiser that serves our students and school community.
The program is operated entirely OUTSIDE and is located in the school parking lot, where students, parents, staff, and the community can drop off items throughout the year. They have state-of-the-art photo quantity sensors installed in each bin that report 3 times daily allowing the company to schedule service as needed. They empty the collection bin, weigh the contents to determine our school earnings, and pay our school each month. Every donation helps. If each family donates just one kitchen-size trash bag, we will earn $1000- $2000 yearly.
Stonegate families, relatives, neighbors, and staff are all encouraged to participate!
