We have successfully completed the first week of CDL for grades 1st-5th!! And, we will bring all kinders on board on Monday!!
Definitely a different start to the new school year but we did it! I know there are still kinks and glitches and technological issues to work out, but they will get worked out and we will find a rhythm that works! And I sincerely thank all the families out there who have been extremely patience and supportive as we launched this year!
Back To School Night is going to look very different this year as well. Here is what you can expect: each grade level will send out a presentation about the important things to know directly to the families in their grade level. Each Grade Level will then host Live Q & A sessions and keep a record of the questions asked in the live session and in the chat. Grade level presentations and Q & A documents will be published to our Website - see below for 5th Grade's example since they just completed theirs this week. You can see when to expect the presentations and live session in the calendar above.

Tips for Vision Health During Distance Learning
Tips For Vision Health During Distance Learning:
- Encourage children to take frequent screen breaks. Follow the 20:20:20 rule, take 20 second breaks every 20 minutes to look away from the screen at a distance of at least 20 feet.
- Keep screens at least arms length distance away from eyes
- Discourage using screens in a dark room
- Consider printing assignments, if possible
- Turn off screens at least one hour before bedtime to support healthy sleep
- Children should have regular vision screenings
- Look for signs of vision issues
Signs of Vision Issues:
- Complaints of eye discomfort or fatigue
- Frequent eye rubbing or blinking
- Short attention span
- Frequent Headaches
- Covering one eye
- Holding reading materials close to the face
- Losing place when reading
- Seing double
- An eye turning in or out
Information about vision screening:
- In a normal school year, a basic vision screening is completed each year for every elementary aged child in the Beaverton School District. It is unlikely vision screenings will be performed in the school setting for the 20-21 school year due to COVID-19
- The American Optometric Association recommends regular eye exams for all children
- Please contact your school nurse if you need help accessing vision screening services
