A Message from the Principal
Dear Birmingham Parents and Guardians,
I hope everyone is having a fantastic March so far. We have a lot of exciting events and opportunities for students and parents this month.
However, I'm aware that the coronavirus is on everyone's mind. Please know that we've purchased hand sanitizers and wipes for every classroom and disinfect classrooms on a regular basis. We have also informed our staff to stay home if they have a fever.
Other tips to be aware of are:
- Avoid touching your face with your hands.
- Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
- Stay home with fever.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue and immediately throw away the tissue.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects.
The risk of getting coronavirus in our area is low, but we will continue to monitor the situation and inform you of any updates that impact our school.
In the month of March, we're excited to offer ongoing parent classes including the continuation of our "Strengthening Families" series. We are also making a big push for our students to consider taking Advanced Placement (AP) classes. All this week and next, teachers are holding lunch sessions for students who want to learn more about particular AP classes. Please know that these classes are an important formative part of becoming ready for college. These classes are extremely challenging and require a lot of work, but if our students are committed and focused they will thrive with this opportunity and put themselves in a better position to get into the college of their choice and are more likely to be ready for the rigors of college. Please be advised that we also have a Career Fair taking place during lunch on March 12th.
For Parents, our Open House will take place on the 19th aligned to our Grand Opening of our New Parent Resource Center. The first 100 parents that visit the Parent Resource Center on the 19th will receive a free BCCHS Parent t-shirt. Other prizes will be available. Please come and spread the word! Finally, I look forward to seeing you at the next Coffee with the Principal on March 20th in the Faculty Cafeteria at 9:00 where we will discuss ways that you can support your son or daughter's success at BCCHS and beyond.
Please also be advised that we are beginning testing season, so our English learners will take the English Language Proficiency Assessment for California starting on the 16th. 11th and 12th graders will take the California Science Test (CAST) beginning on March 26th. Please encourage your student to get enough sleep and eat a healthy breakfast. This will support better test performance and also strengthen the immune system to fight off and viruses.
Thank you for being part of the BCCHS family!
Sincerely,
Ari Bennett, BCCHS Principal

Freshmen Class
Class of 2023
February was a great month. We had our grade level recognition lunch with over 350 freshman students, all with a GPA of at least 3.0.
In March we are having the attendance challenge! Give us your best effort and make it to school every day in March.
This grading period ends on April 1, 2020.
Class of 2021
As soon as the progress reports were in, all juniors received certificates from the Class of 2021 team with words of congratulations and encouragement as we delve further into the Spring semester. As February draws to a close, our hard working counselors are meeting with students and helping them choose classes for their senior year…hard to believe that’s just around the corner!
At this time, Juniors are gearing up for the SAT that they will take on Wednesday, March 4th. Remember, it is very important to get a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast and be on time the morning of the test. Being optimistic, having a positive attitude and doing your best goes a long way too!
In March, we will continue to encourage high achievement and celebrate the academic success of our Juniors with an Honors Recognition Ceremony the evening of March 25th… it is sure to be a memorable event!

Remember, to stay healthy, frequent hand-washing is the simplest and best method to avoid illness. Coughing into your sleeve helps protect others. Flu is still prevalent and it is not too late to get your flu shot. Finally, If your child has a 100* fever or higher, please keep them at home until fever free for 24 hours.
Dean’s Corner
Success at school begins with arriving to school, and to class on time.
School start times:
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 8:30am
Tuesday 9:00am
Tardy Sweeps:
Tardy sweeps are occurring every day, and every period. It is imperative that students arrive to school and to class on time. Students who accumulate 6 tardies will be assigned a mandatory lunch detention. Tardies and detentions are tracked, and monitored through our new 360i Suite tardy software.
Important: Students with a “HOME” period MUST be off-campus, in a classroom, or in the Library by the time the tardy bell rings. Students with a sports period MUST be with their respective sport by the time the tardy bell rings. If students are not in areas listed above, they will get caught in the Tardy Sweep, and earn a tardy.
Students are strongly encouraged to attend lunch detention, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday on their own to avoid being picked-up by Security and escorted.
Changes to our Tardy Policy are currently working their way through committee, and will include increased interventions. Parents, please help us by encouraging your student to get to school, and to class on time.
Student ID Cards:
Students MUST carry a BCCHS student ID card at all times on campus. Student ID cards are required to participate in BCCHS sponsored field trips, purchase tickets to dances, Prom, and Disneyland Grad Nite, receive free giveaways at school, and receive discounted tickets to sporting events. Presenting student ID cards are always a great way of saving, and receiving discount tickets at various businesses in our community, especially movie theaters, and some amusement parks.
Nixle:
With the recent extreme high wind warnings, and the Getty and Tick fires, it is essential that parents and students are well informed with essential information on how these events, and others may impact our school. ALL parent cell phone numbers have been imported into the Nixle parent platform from Aeries. ALL student emails have also been imported into the student platform from Aeries.
College and Career Fair
The College and Career Fair is March 12th at Birmingham. Classrooms will be coming to the GYM to visit and learn about their college and career options. ALL other students can visit during lunchtime. Encourage your student to attend this informative event.
JUNIORS! SAT Exam March 4th - All juniors will be taking the SAT exam during school. This is an important exam for students planning to attend Cal State Universities, UCs, and Private college. Please make sure that your student gets plenty of sleep the night before. That they make it to school on time and are ready for this important exam.
Seniors
CA College Promise Field Trip - March 13th. Students interested or thinking about attending a community college and taking advantage of the two years of free tuition College Promise. Students will visit LA City College and learn about attending a community college as well as how to take advantage of the CA college promise. Have your student pick up a trip slip in the college center today.
College Admission Decisions- Congratulations to all the seniors that have been admitted to colleges. March is the month when many seniors hear back from colleges about their college admissions. Most UC will decide by mid-March and private colleges will be at the end of March. Check and read all emails as there is important information and the next steps for admitted students.
For Cal state please make sure to check your portals for any necessary documents needed to make a decision.
