Notes from the Health Office...
1/8/21
Happy New year! Thank you for keeping your children home if you traveled for the holiday. We appreciate you partnering with us to keep Windsor a healthy place for students and staff. I know it’s a hard decision when everyone feels fine but we have to remember that the virus is shed 48 hours before feeling any symptoms. This is a contributing factor to it being spread. It is also a slow virus which is why the long 14 day quarantine is recommended after travel.
Please note the new guidelines indicate that quarantine may be reduced to 10 days after exposure to someone with COVID 19 or traveling, HOWEVER the gold standard is 14 days and we are still recommending 14 days. The reason for reducing is science has found there is a significant decrease in risk of transmission after day 10. In cases where people/students are unable to maintain safety mitigations (6 feet of distance, wearing a mask, avoid large crowds, etc) it is NOT recommended to shorten quarantine and they must quarantine the full 14 days. Symptoms can still start up through day 14 after being in close contact with someone who is positive for COIVID 19 so it is important to follow the safety mitigations (6 feet distance, wearing a mask, avoiding large crowds, etc) throughout the full 14 days.
Keeping kids home when ill and following a 14 day quarantine after exposure or travel is working! Thank you for helping us keep COVID out of Windsor!
As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns!
Thank you,
Darlene Carpenter, RN

Mrs. Stella's Station
Happy New Year! I hope that everyone had a relaxing Winter Break, and was able to enjoy some time in the snow over the past week! My youngest daughter brought me a chunk of snow to put in the freezer over the weekend - she told me she wanted to save it for a science experiment. For others who are thinking of ways to use the snow and ice for learning, Frugal Fun for Boys and Girls has a great science experiment for you to try, "Don't Melt the Ice!" What can your child create that will keep ice from melting? There's even a documentation and reflection sheet that you can use to help guide your family through the process. Share your results on twitter and tag @mrsstella or @windsorwildcats. We'd love to see what you design! Have a great weekend!
