School District 57
From the Desk of the Superintendent

Friday, May 5, 2023
Dear District 57 Families,
At last night’s Board of Education meeting, we officially welcomed our new Board team for the coming calendar year. We swore in our newest Board member Pam Nelson, a professional librarian and Mount Prospect resident for 38 years. We also swore in returning members Corrin Bennett-Kill, Chris Lettow, and Kimberly Fay.
Kimberly Fay was appointed Board President, and Corrin Bennett-Kill was appointed Board Vice-President, both for one-year appointments.
I'm deeply thankful to our newly-seated Board for their leadership and commitment. Serving as a Board member is tireless volunteer work, however meaningful and rewarding. I'm incredibly fortunate to have them as partners in steering our District on the best course.
I would like to formally recognize Eileen Kowalczyk for her five years of service as Board President. Eileen showed great patience during many difficult and complex times and remained steadfast in her commitment to providing strong leadership for all District 57 stakeholders. District 57 has greatly benefited from Eileen’s servant leadership.
New Lincoln Assistant Principal
The Board approved the contract for Lincoln’s new assistant principal, Laena Divito, who will begin on August 1. Ms. Divito currently serves as the Assistant Principal of Grove Junior High in District 59. Before this role, she held various positions, including a middle school special education teacher, elementary school special education teacher, interventionist, instructional coach, and elementary-level assistant principal. We are thrilled to welcome Ms. Divito to District 57. We are excited for her to serve alongside Lincoln Principal Eric Larson and newly-appointed assistant principal Jason Jonas, who will also begin on August 1.
Staff Appreciation Week
Next week, we will celebrate Staff Appreciation Week in celebration of the extraordinary impact of our fantastic District 57 Staff in the lives of our students every day. On behalf of the District 57 Board of Education, I would like to send our deepest gratitude and appreciation to all our exceptional staff, including our teachers, therapists, support staff, instructional assistants, nurses, related services team members, custodial and maintenance staff, office staff, and administrators! We are grateful to all D57 Staff for choosing our great district to apply their talents, innovative ideas, and passion for helping students reach their greatest potential!
I hope this coming week, and the remaining weeks of every year, you feel how deeply you are valued as a member of the District 57 Team! The greatest thing to be in life is a light for someone else, and you undoubtedly shine for many.
Please join me next week in showing our appreciation to our District 57 Staff!
I hope you and your loved ones enjoy the beautiful sunshine. And as we wrap up the last few weeks of school, know that I am grateful to serve as the superintendent of this wonderful district.
In the spirit of education,
Dr. Mary Gorr
