A Word From Mrs. Manning...
Cell Phones and Social Media
As partners in your child's education, we strive to maintain a positive and focused learning environment for all students. To support this goal, we kindly request your assistance in monitoring your child's cell phone and social media usage, particularly in the context of interactions that may impact their behavior at school.
Recently, we have been addressing instances with our 3rd-6th grade students where social media interactions and group chats have spilled over into the school environment, causing disruptions and distractions to the learning process. These incidents are leading to unnecessary drama, conflicts, and feelings of unease among students, distracting them from their academic progress and emotional well-being.
As parents, your guidance plays a crucial role in shaping your child's social interactions, online behavior, and ensuring they understand the importance of respectful communication, empathy, and responsible digital citizenship. By monitoring their social media and cell phone activity, you can help identify any concerning patterns or behaviors early on and address them proactively.
Thank you for your cooperation and ongoing support in fostering a conducive learning environment for all.
What's Going On???
February 29th- Character Kids Assembly @ 2:15pm
March 1st- Cash for Casual
End of Black History Month
As we prepare to wrap up Black History month, we would love for you to send us photos of your students pictured with items that were invented by African American inventors. Please send those photos to april.manning@estemschools.org and we will highlight our students throughout the week on ClassDojo and our school Instagram page.
State Testing
We will have our first round of state testing beginning March 5th. This will be the ATLAS writing assessment. This state-required writing test is not just another exam—it's a vital measure of students' abilities to communicate effectively through the written word. Strong writing skills are essential for success in school and beyond. By excelling in this test, students demonstrate their proficiency in articulating ideas, organizing thoughts, and conveying meaning—a skill set that transcends the classroom and is crucial in various aspects of life, including future academic pursuits and career endeavors.
Parental encouragement is a powerful motivator. When parents express belief in their children's abilities and encourage them to do their best, it instills confidence and a positive attitude toward learning. This support fosters a growth mindset, where students understand that their efforts and persistence are key to achieving success. Additionally, parents can help alleviate test-related stress by providing a supportive and nurturing environment at home, emphasizing the importance of effort over perfection, and reassuring their children that mistakes are part of the learning process.
Testing Schedule
6th Grade- Mar. 5th
5th Grade- Mar. 7th
4th Grade- Mar. 12th
3rd Grade- Mar. 13th
Dress Code and Cash for Casual
The dress code will be strictly enforced, and the Director of School has final authority on all matters relating to the other dress code. Repeated violations of the dress code will result in detention, loss of privileges, or suspension. If a student misses class due to a dress code violation, the student will be responsible for making up any missed work.
Coin Wars
February 20th marks the beginning of our Coin Wars! All students are eligible to participate. Field Day is coming soon, but we have limited space due to the construction taking place in the Heifer International parking lot. We would like to raise funds to secure vendors such as bounce houses, water slides, dunking booths, mobile game trucks, rock climbing walls, snow cone trucks, etc. in order to make our field day enjoyable for our students.
We have a goal to raise $1500. If you have loose change, send it!! You found a penny in the washing machine...we will take it! This year we are having the grades compete to see who raise the most. The grade that raises most will get to make Mrs. Manning and Mrs. Rowe in to human ice cream sundaes!!!
Attendance
Dear eStem Families,
We wanted to take a moment to reiterate our focus this year of reaching Every Student, Every Day and to emphasize the importance of regular student attendance for your child’s success.
We understand that sometimes unforeseen circumstances may lead to absences. In these cases, please communicate with the school and provide the necessary documentation. However, we are asking that you prioritize your child’s attendance whenever possible. eStem’s attendance policy can be found in our student handbooks, and we’ve included a quick link HERE. Students are only allotted 10 absences per year, and we have many students who have exceeded this number in the first semester. Exceeding these 10 absences could result in loss of credit or retention. If you have questions about the number of days your child has missed, you can access this information through HAC or email your child’s school registrar for additional help.
Let’s work together to ensure that your child receives the best possible education, and their school attendance is a vital piece to their achievement. We appreciate your help and commitment to making your child’s attendance a top priority!
Student Drop Off and Pick Up
EV families,
Students can NOT be dropped off or picked up in the entrance to Rock Region Dental (next to the entrance to the East Village campuses & Fidel's and facing the dumpsters). This is a safety issue and is not a drop off or pick up location. Staff will be redirecting anyone who is trying to turn in to this entrance to drop off or pick up their child. We appreciate your cooperation and following our carpool guidelines and locations.
Student Illness
We are seeing a rise in student illness. We also have many students that are asking for masks when they come to school. In recent years during the pandemic, we were provided with those supplies by the school district. Now that we are no longer considered to be in a pandemic, we no longer receive those supplies. Please be advised that we no longer have a supply to provided to a large amount of students. The masks that we have will be strictly for usage in the health room.
If your child has any cold or flu-like symptoms, please keep them home.
Our district-wide policy states:
Any student who has 2 or more symptoms of illness including headache, sore throat, runny/stuffy
nose, cough, diarrhea, fatigue, body aches, shortness of breath, chest pain, fever, etc. will be sent
home. A fever does not have to be present in order to send a student home.
Any student that has these cold/flu symptoms must be picked up from school. Students should remain home until symptom and/or fever free for 48 hours without fever-reducing medication or as directed by their physician. The parent should consider contacting their physician for further instructions and notify the Director of any test results they may receive.
Items From Home
Many of our boys are bringing balls to school from home for recess time. We are not permitting this moving forward. The nurses office is getting an influx of students that are being hurt from rough play because students are playing too rough with these items. Any football, soccer, or basketballs brought to school will be taken and placed in either the Dean's office or the Director's office for parents to retrieve.
Morning Announcements
Morning announcements are now being streamed through Class Dojo live! Our announcement team has been doing a fabulous job! Now parents are able to see our announcement as well. You can check out our daily school announcements on school story in Class Dojo. Haven't signed up yet? Reach out to your child's teacher for sign up information and the chance to communicate with your child's teacher(s) at any time.
