March 20, 2023
Admin Corner
We are committed to our targeted learning focus for the school:
Ponder, Persevere and Prove It!
Parking Lot Protocol
MES opens at 7:30 every morning, and our parking lot is empty between 7:30-7:45am. The line of cars typically starts getting long at 7:45am. We encourage all families to leave early to arrive by 7:45am at the latest. School starts at 8:00am. Please remember we also have a number of bus stops through the town and south county. When in the MES parking lot, please remember the following:
- When pulling through the drop off circle, pull as far forward as possible. The top of the drop off circle is at the entrance to the staff parking lot. Do not stop prior to this point if you are the first car pulling through.
- The drop off circle is for drop off only. If you need to exit your car, please park.
- Drive slowly.
- NO cell phone use.
- Be kind and respectful.
- Be cautious when slippery.
Language Arts & Reading News
In March, we celebrate Read Across America Day and a month of fun literacy activities. MES PTO in collaboration with the Mono County Public Library has come up with a fun reading challenge for all of our students. Information will come home this week. Reading is a powerful tool in education. Encouraging your child to read at home is one of the best ways you can help set them up for success at school. Remember, all reading counts! Graphic novels, audiobooks, magazines, read alouds, movie captions, the back of the cereal box
Math News
- Eureka Math 2 curriculum is being piloted at most grade levels. Ask your students about their new math curriculum! To find additional information and resources for families, click here.
- Dream Box is an adaptive, supplemental math program that we use at school. Your student has access to this program at home with his/her Clever login. Lessons take between 5-15 minutes, and can be something fun to explore and work on at home as well as at school.
STEAM News
This week, we are so excited to welcome the Trout in the Classroom program into our STEAM Lab! Provided by Inyo and Mono County Fish and Wildlife, this educational program delivers live trout eggs into the classroom so students can experience the trout's hatching and maturation through multiple early life cycles. This is a hands-on program that teaches students the value of our local aquatic environments and the power of environmental stewardship. If you are interested in volunteering with Trout in the Classroom or if you have any questions about the program, you can reach out to our STEAM educator, Sarah Weiland, at sweiland@mammothusd.org
Attendance
Average daily attendance at MES is 92%. Our goal is to get above 95%! Help us by ensuring your children come to school daily. Read the attached handout about the importance of school attendance.
We have a new system integrated with our attendance program that is making automated contact with families when a student is marked absent. Please be patient as we learn to work with this new system. If you have already called in your child's attendance for the day, you can ignore the message. If you have not already made contact, please call our attendance hotline to report why @ 760-934-7162. If your child’s absence is not reported, it is considered truant. Also note that this is a monitored line for leaving an attendance message only. You will not receive a call back.
I would like to introduce our families to Ms. Isabel Munoz who works for the Mono County Office of Education. She is working to coordinate our grant-funded Learning Communities for School Success Program (LCSSP). The LCSSP aims to support evidence-based, non-punitive programs and practices to support daily school attendance. She is here to support school staff and act as an advocate/liaison for SARB involved families. If your student is struggling with his/her attendance, Ms. Munoz may be reaching out to see how to best support your family.

MES Ski and Snowboard PE News
Thank you donors!
Our ski and snowboard PE, ski and snowboard teams and nordic ski programs would not be possible without our generous donors. We would like to thank the Mammoth Mountain Community Foundation (MMCF) for their annual $10,000 donation to our programs. Also, our MES Parent Teacher Organization (MES PTO) annually donates to our programs as well. Additionally, we couldn't run these programs without the support of our staff, students, families and Mammoth Mountain Ski Area Ski and Snowboard School and Race Department. Thank you for the opportunity to get our students out on the hill!
