Our Curriculum!
The SC classes use an adapted curriculum called enCore! There are a total of 36 units, and those units are banded by grade levels. All of our classes have multiple grade levels. Due to this, some classes might use two units simultaneously. For example, a class might use a unit for kindergarten through second and a different unit for grades third through fifth. Each unit consist of an adapted fiction book and an adapted nonfiction book. It takes six weeks to complete one full unit with three weeks per book.

What we learned last week!
Last week in literacy, we were working on week two of our fiction books.
In math we were working on operations and algebraic thinking. This ranged from building simple operations with addition or subtraction as well as using word problems to compute on number lines.
In science, we will began our studies on Georgia regions that included animals and habitats for the specific region.
What we are learning this week!
In literacy, we will finish working in our units with fiction books. Each book has a variety of phonics built in. This changes every day. Depending on the book, the phonics could range from letter identification, letter sounds, counting syllables, or decoding words.
- Ms. Payne is using the book Chicken Little.
- Mrs. Bassery is using the books Hide and Seek and The Wizard of Oz.
- Mrs. Banks is using the books Chicken Little and Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
- Ms. Turnbull is using the book Beauty and the Beast.
In math, we will be on measurement and data! Depending on the unit, this will range from measuring with non-standard items such as paperclips to comparing weight.
In science, we will be spending two weeks working on different plants, animals, and habitats found within geographic regions (Blue Ridge Mountains, Piedmont, Coastal Plains, Valley and Ridge, and Appalachian Plateau) of Georgia.
Over the next two weeks, our fifth grade students who participate in the Georgia Alternate Assessment (GAA), they will be learning about plant and animal cells.
Visual Cooking!
Cooking is an important life skill our students will need to learn. At home, you can use visual recipes to help your child begin learning these important skills!
