JANUARY 17, 2024 - NEWSLETTER
Hello Northpoint Families!
I hope you are staying warm during this extremely cold streak of weather. With the recent cold temperatures, we have had to shift to indoor recess a few times. We make this call in the morning when we have a good idea of what the temperatures will be at recess. Since we don’t know until the morning if it will be an indoor recess, please make sure you are always sending your child(ren) with the appropriate winter gear. Hats, gloves, coats, snow pants, etc. are extremely important to keep kids warm and safe while they are outside during the winter.
The next round of conferences are coming up next month. Please mark your calendars for conference days of February 15, 4--7 p.m. and February 16, 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. More information around scheduling specific times will come out next week. If there are questions you have about your child, please don’t feel you need to wait until conferences. You can always reach out to your child’s teacher(s) and get your questions answered!
A week from today, there are three opportunities for fourth grade families to learn more about the transition to 5th grade at Westwood. See the specific details in the section below in today’s newsletter.
Have a wonderful rest of the week and hopefully it warms up soon!

Showing up to school every day has been proven to keep children healthier, help to develop life skills and independence, and promote community. Each month, we will be sharing a reason why it is important for your child to be in school, including tips for how to promote attendance.
Develop Life Skills
Going to school regularly helps students develop important life skills. Effective communication, decision-making and time management are all skills that are taught from an early age. These skills are honed as students make their way through SLP Schools and beyond. In fact, these lessons are carried through all the way to our Transitions Program! Transitions student Sam Alkhulaidi states, "I'm learning to grow vegetables in my backyard garden.” Sam is looking forward to the spring thaw so he can put his new skills he learned from school to use.
School Health Screen Magnets
As we continue to navigate cold and flu season, we would like to remind families of our attendance policy. Be on the lookout this week for your student bringing home a handy magnet to keep in your home. This serves as a helpful reminder about when to send your child to school and when to stay home when they are sick. One magnet per family will be distributed.
