On August 18, 2022 the Gwinnett County Board approved Policy JCDI - Board's Theory of Action for Change to Improve Student Behavior and Outcomes. You can use this LINK to review the new JCDI policy.

Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) invites GCPS families, Gwinnett county residents, students, and GCPS staff members to participate in the school district’s review of the Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) curriculum by Oct. 6. The public may review proposed standards online, offering feedback on AKS that have been developed to align the curriculum with the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) and/or Georgia Performance Standards (GPS).

The students, faculty and staff of Coleman Middle School are so excited to be able to host our first community showcase of the 2022-2023 school year! We believe input from our stakeholders is an integral part of "The Coleman Experience" for our students. We will host a showcase for each grade level on the dates and times below. We hope you will be able to attend and provide feedback to the students and their projects. I have included the grade level driving question along with locations. Please feel free to invite any of your colleagues, family, and friends. I will be hosting a "First Time Attending a Showcase" session prior to the 6th grade showcase in the media center. This session will be useful if you have not attended a showcase before or if you would like to know how to give meaningful feedback to students.

Parents, please encourage your student to dress for success for their PBL showcase, if possible. We use our showcases as an opportunity to simulate a professional environment where they have to present their project and communicate with various audiences, as part of their learning that day!

PTA Fall Fundraiser:

ONE MORE WEEK is left for our PTA Fall Fundraiser, ending on Friday, September 30th. We are raising money for our teachers so that they can spoil our students! Teachers can request grants for technology and supplies for their classrooms or clubs. Students, staff, teachers, parents, and community members may donate money through cash, check, or Cash App ($ColemanPTA). Money will be collected by PTA Board members every Thursday morning, concluding with our last collection on September 29th, in the car rider lanes and bus lanes. Be sure to include your student's name, homeroom teacher's name, and grade level with each payment in order to win prizes. Weekly raffle winners will be announced each Thursday morning after money collections. This week's raffle winners are Maija Bailey and Maddison Massoud who won Eye Candy Art Studio $25 Gift Cards! Congrats to Maija and Maddison! For the week of September 26th, every $10 donated will earn one entry into the Raffle Drawing. For example, $50 will earn 5 entries into the Raffle Drawing! Empanada House $25 Gift Cards will be the prizes for next week's drawing. Classes with the most participation in each grade level will receive an ice cream party. The teacher with the most class donations will be able to wear jeans for the week. Let's show our teachers how much we love and support them by donating in a BIG way for Teacher Grants. Students will benefit from these technology and instructional supplies all year!

PTA Booth at the Duluth Fall Festival Parade:

Save the Date! Come out and support our Coleman PTA this Saturday, September 24th, beginning at 8:00AM at the Duluth Fall Festival Parade. We will set up a booth selling "Break" Coffee ($2 each), "Krispy Kreme" Donuts ($1 each), and Coleman Hoodies ($30 each) at the corner stop sign in front of Coleman Middle School. We will accept payments by cash, check, or card. See you there!

Calling Parent Volunteers to Serve in the Coleman Media Center:

Our Coleman Media Center Specialist, Shelley Winkler, would like parent or grandparent volunteers on Tuesdays and Thursdays to help with reshelving books, checking in and checking out books, and helping with tasks, such as bulletin boards, book cataloging, book weeding, and laminating. Our monthly behavior rewards will start on October 4th. We have shared with our students during announcements that those who remain free of infractions since our summer reading celebration until then, will receive a treat at lunch! Please encourage your student to participate!

Students members will meet next Tuesday, September 27, at 8:15 AM. Parents can drop off students in the front since Dr. Hernandez will be waiting for them in the front lobby!

At Coleman MS, we want to make sure our new students feel welcome! Every month we host an orientation for new students. Our next New Student Orientation will take place on Friday, September 30th. Students will receive passes!

Students will meet in the cafeteria for Cheer Auditions!

Basketball tryouts will be the week of October 10th, immediately after Fall Break. Students should have their basketball packets submitted by the 6th of October. It will be on Tuesday-Friday for boys and girls. Girls will tryout each day from 4:30-5:30pm. Boys will try out from 5:30-6:30 each day. Students will go home with a letter welcoming them to the team or thanking them for trying out.

Bring your GOTR spirit and run The Race half marathon or 5K. Every registration raises dollars for the Charitable Impact Fund, which has benefitted our GOTR girls for many years. Be sure to join the Girls on the Run team when you register. Not interested in running? Consider volunteering at the GOTR water stop from 7:30 – 9:30 am and help cheer on The Race participants.

December 3 – Girls on the Run 5K

Girls on the Run 5K registration for Running Buddies and community participants will open later this month, and stay tuned for an announcement on the new 5K location!

The 21st annual Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District Middle School Essay Contest is now open. Sixth, seventh, and eighth graders in Bartow, Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Hall, Henry, Paulding and Rockdale counties are invited to participate in the annual essay contest.
