Autumn Term - 12th October 2023
Message from the Executive Headteacher
Dear Parents/Carers
Our 9 principles are at the core of everything we are working to achieve with the children here at HPP. They are the golden thread which runs throughout our school. One of our principles is inclusion; ensuring all children are included and have access to our ambitious curriculum and the support to achieve. We work hard to build strong relationships with our families of pupils with SEND and as part of that it was wonderful that parents from across the partnership attended the coffee morning for parents of pupils with SEND. I know staff and parents found this session very useful and we hope to repeat the event soon. The HPP SEND team is extremely experienced and works tirelessly with and for pupils in both schools to ensure that they are successful both academically and socially.
A couple of reminders,. Please remember the harvest donations on Thursday 19th October (see poster below) and a reminder that now that weather is more autumnal, children will need to bring a coat to school. They will not be able to go out to play if it's damp without a coat.

Do you want to know more about how we excite and inspire children about books and reading at HJS? We would like to welcome you to the Rose Hall at 9am on Friday 20th October for a reading workshop, hosted by Mrs Gregory and Miss Smith. We hope you can join us.
Bude Year 5 Meeting
Reminder that next week there is a meeting for year 5 parents in the Rose Hall to discuss Bude. This will take place on Wednesday 18th October at 3.30pm.
If you live in the Richmond and Kingston Boroughs and have a child diagnosed with ADHD / feel that your child could have ADHD, the charity ADHD Embrace are offering free, one-to-one Family Support sessions. They are bookable online for parents who want to discuss their children and ideas for specific support in more detail. Please click on the heading for further information.
HJS Football
Thursday 5th October vs Hampton Hill
HJS took their girls and boys football teams to play their first game of the year. Both teams showed incredible determination and certainly represented the school with pride.
The boys kicked off first which ended up being a fantastic game to watch. Final score: Hampton Hill 0 -3 HJS.
It was a great team performance from the girls with everyone having a part to play throughout the game. Final score: Hampton Hill 5 -0 HJS.
Well done to everyone that took part. We look forward to the rest of the year!
Year 3 News
Hampton Library Visits
This week, 3M and 3G visited the library in Hampton. Many children signed up to the library and used their library cards to take out a selection of books. The children were great ambassadors of HJS and used the library with care and respect. 3D and 3S are looking forward to visiting the library next week. We hope the children will continue to visit the local library as it has a whole range of books to borrow! Years 4, 5 and 6 will also get the opportunity to visit Hampton Library during the academic year.
Scholastic Book Fair
The dates will be: Wednesday 1st November, Thursday 2nd November and Friday 3rd November in the Rose Hall, after school between 3:20pm and 4:00pm.
As part of this, we have been given 5 x £5 book vouchers to give away. We are launching a "Design a Bookmark" competition in order to decide who to award these vouchers to. There will be one winner for each year group plus one bonus winner (this could be from any year group!)
If you would like to receive a £5 book voucher to spend at the book fair in school, you can enter the competition by doing the following:
- Design a bookmark the same size as the templates provided
- Use colour pencils or colour pens
- Create an eye-catching design
- Show a passion for reading- they could represent a certain author, book, genre or present a reading-related quote
Here are some examples, as well as a bookmark template to use.
Entries must be given to your class teacher no later than Monday 30th October. The decision will be made by SLT on this date. The winners will be announced during our whole school assembly on Wednesday 1st November. Good luck!
This year for Harvest, HJS will be collecting food and hygiene items for the Vineyard Food Bank and the Hygiene Bank, both of which service the local area.
Please drop donations off at the Rose Hall, on the morning of Thursday 19th October. All donations will be collected by the food and hygiene banks in the afternoon.
Non-perishable items are highly recommended by food banks because they are convenient, have a long shelf life and are easy to consume. Please no fresh produce and ensure all donations for the hygiene bank are new/unused items.
