NJSLA
On Monday, May 8th , students in grades 3 and 4 will begin to take the NJSLA ( New Jersey Student Learning Assessments for English Language Arts and Mathematics) with make-ups taking place the week of May 15th.
You, as parents and guardians, play an important role in the testing process. I am certain that you want to give your child every opportunity to do well, so in preparation for the week of testing, I am sharing with you things that I encourage you to do…
Make every effort to have your child present and on time during the testing days, unless your child is ill.
Make sure your child gets a good night sleep and eats a healthy breakfast.
Encourage your child to do his / her best and to remain calm… the assessment is an opportunity for the children to shine and show what they have learned.
Have your child keep cell phones and SMART Watches home on testing days.
Let your child know that you believe in him/her. Simply telling your child this will help to further foster a positive attitude and sense of confidence.
Encourage your child to…
Listen to the directions carefully.
Read each question carefully for understanding.
Read all the answer choices before choosing an answer.
Answer all parts of the open-ended response questions.
Monitor his/her time. Teachers will keep students informed with the amount of time left to work.
Use work time that might be remaining when he/she is finished with a section to go back and check answers and work in that section only.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or me. Thank you!

SEL Night!
SEL Family Night
Nixon School Families!
Please see the flyer below for a special school counselor driven initiative and event that we will be hosting on Tuesday, May 2nd from 5 - 7 pm at the Outdoor Pavilion by Franklin Elementary School. The purpose of this Social Emotional Learning (SEL) event is to provide a plethora of contacts for resources, businesses and organizations within and around the Roxbury community that may assist in the social and emotional development of our students. Some of those confirmed resources so far include the Center for Family Services, the YMCA, 4H, Cub Scouts, North Jersey Aquatics, Dream Dance Studio, Kula Yoga, the Growing Stage, etc. Right now we have about 25 confirmed vendors, but our list is still growing! We will have FREE food, activities and even giveaways at the event! While we are not requiring families to register for this event, it would be helpful for you to do so in order for us to have enough food, prizes, etc. to give out. Here is the link where you can register: https://forms.gle/oXfZ76K7Hr7pZuf47
We are really looking forward to hosting our Roxbury families at the SEL Family Night! Nixon School (and every elementary school) will have their own table set up so please be sure to visit us when you come by! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kindergarten Registration is OPEN!
Roxbury Township Public Schools, a K-12 school district preparing the children of today for tomorrow, has set its in-person Kindergarten registration dates for the 2023/2024 school year. Children must be five years old on or before October 1, 2023 to participate. Click here for more information regarding Roxbury's Entrance Age Policy (P5112). If there are any questions regarding the policy or procedure, please reach out to Assistant Superintendent Dr. Chuck Seipp at cseipp@roxbury.org or by calling 973-584-6799.
Roxbury Township Public Schools offers a full-day kindergarten program designed to develop knowledge and skills in the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive areas. Our goal is to help children develop skills and strategies that will help them learn and establish a foundation for lifelong success in education. The program allows more time for students to address curriculum in depth and allows teachers to provide additional activities in learning.
To register for Kindergarten, parents will need to complete the online pre-registration process and begin uploading the required documents for Kindergarten. For a complete list of what to do and what to bring, visit https://www.roxbury.org/Domain/136
Online registration for Kindergarten is now open. Parents are required to register their child at their home school. If the home school is unknown, please contact the Transportation Department at 973-584-6756 and based on your address, they can let you know what school your child should be attending.
