STRONGSVILLE CITY SCHOOLS EARNS NATIONAL RECOGNITION AS “BEST COMMUNITIES FOR MUSIC EDUCATION”
Strongsville City Schools has been honored with the “Best Communities for Music Education” designation from The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. This is the tenth straight year the District has earned this distinction. Strongsville is one of 830 school districts nationwide, one of 47 Districts in Ohio, and one of just 17 school districts in Northeast Ohio to receive this prestigious award in 2023. Congratulations to our entire community and thank you to the teachers, students, parents, and booster clubs for their continued support of our outstanding music program!
MUSTANG SPOTLIGHT - MRS. ALLISON APPLEBEE, EDUCATIONAL AIDE AT SURRARRER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Mrs. Allison Applebee is an Educational Aide at Surrarrer Elementary School. Mrs. Applebee has worked in our District for 11 years and has also spent time in all of our elementary buildings and at the former Albion Middle School before landing at Surrarrer. She earned her undergraduate degree from Mercyhurst University.
“I primarily work with kindergarten and first grade students, so I am there for the changes as they become more accustomed to school and begin to come out of their shells. I love watching the kids learn and grow each day as they face new challenges. I am lucky to have the opportunity to build relationships with the students which means they are comfortable coming to me with their problems and also silly stories. Random thoughts and comments that I hear are pretty hilarious at times. My absolute favorite part is seeing the look on a student’s face when they accomplish something they’ve worked so hard on. Witnessing a child feeling proud of themselves makes my heart happy. During my time here I have met a lot of amazing kids. I can only hope that I’m making as big of an impact on their lives as they are making in mine,” said Mrs. Applebee.
Thank you Mrs. Applebee for being part of a great team at Surrarrer Elementary! #BeTheDifference
SHS ENGLISH 9 HONORS STUDENTS CREATE “WELCOME GUIDE” FOR STRONGSVILLE
Mrs. Ribblett’s English 9 Honors class created a “Welcome Guide” for students who enter Strongsville High School from another place. The Welcome Guide includes a handout with a list of Strongsville businesses grouped into categories (local sweets, local eats, unique places with interesting histories, etc.) and a website which elaborates on the businesses listed within the handout through pictures, videos, and write-ups on 28 different places, all from a teenager's perspective. Each student visited their individual location and the entire class took trips to three of the locations. The project culminated in a student-led presentation of their handout and website to SCS Administration, SHS teachers, and representatives from the Strongsville community.
