Wisconsin Student Assessment System
As we progress through the 2023 – 2024 school year, we would like to provide you with a calendar for the WSAS – Wisconsin Student Assessment System. All freshmen and sophomores will take the Pre-ACT Secure exam, which assesses students for readiness in English, mathematics, reading, and science. Sophomores will also be taking the Forward Exam, which is a social studies assessment. Students’ scores on the Pre-ACT Secure exam help predict future scores on the ACT Plus Writing exam. All juniors will take the ACT Plus Writing exam. The ACT Plus Writing exam consists of four multiple-choice tests: English, mathematics, reading, and science, and a 30-minute essay test that measures writing skills. The ACT can be used for college enrollment, scholarships, and NCAA eligibility requirements. A summary of the state testing requirements is listed below:
Freshmen Pre-ACT Secure for Grade 9 – April 10
Sophomores Pre-ACT Secure for Grade 10 – April 10
Wisconsin Forward Exam (Social Studies) – April 10
Juniors ACT Plus Writing – March 13
Attendance – Reminders for Parents/Guardians
It is very important at the high school level that we monitor and keep accurate attendance for our students.
Please note the following procedures regarding excused absences:
If a student will be absent from school, a parent/guardian should email the main office or call the attendance line to leave a message at 715-568-2800, press 2 for the high school, press 1 for the attendance line by 8:00 a.m.
If the attendance secretary does not receive a phone call or email by 8:00 a.m., a call and email will be placed to the parent/guardian to ensure the safety of the student. Students will be issued a pass to leave early for an approved appointment.
A student whose parent/guardian did not call or email the school on the day of the absence must be excused by their parent/guardian within three days of the absence between 7:30 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. The school attendance officer will determine whether or not this absence will be considered excused.
The student is responsible for communicating with all teachers to determine work missed during the absence.
Any student who leaves the building for any reason during regular school hours is required to check out at the office prior to exiting the building.

Attendance Matters
News from Student Services, Mrs.Seibel & Mrs.Clements
Scheduling for 2024-25
Scheduling for the 2024-25 school year will start in the first few weeks of January. They will be receiving information about the scheduling process and requirements that need to be met for graduation. Students will be completing their course request sheets for classes that they are interested in taking next year and then entering them into Skyward.
Reminder for Seniors:
Scholarships:
Remember to keep checking the scholarship list that is available in the student services office and on the school website. The local scholarship application will be available on February 1st.
Mock Interview:
All seniors will be taking part in a Mock Interview on January 17th. There will be many area businesses that will be here conducting interviews in the field that students are interested in after graduation. This is a great opportunity for students to get experience in the interviewing process as well as have a resume and cover letter ready to go when they graduate.
CVTC Academies:
Chippewa Valley Technical College (CVTC), is offering summer 2024, fall 2024 and spring 2025 academies for juniors and seniors next year. Check out their website for more information about what academies are offered. Students could start enrolling on November 1st.

ASVAB:
The ASVAB Program is an aptitude test and career interest inventory that gives students an opportunity to evaluate their skills, estimate their performance in academic and vocation areas and identify potential careers. The ASVAB will be administered at BHS on January 11th at 8:00am. Students who are interested in participating must sign up in student services by January 5th, there is no cost to take this exam.
MYSAEBRS:
All students will have the opportunity to participate in the MySAEBRS survey on January 24th during advisee. This is a student led survey (they fill the survey out about themselves).
MySAEBRS is designed for universal screening of students in grades 2 through 12. MySAEBRS can be used to identify students who are at risk for social, academic, and emotional behaviors up to five times a year. By evaluating in which of the three specific domains a student is at risk, educators may determine what type of supports are most appropriate and which problem behaviors should be prioritized through intervention.
*Please note- the use of MySaebrs is to help educators support all students in all areas.
