Craddock's Weekly Update
For the Weeks of November 14 and 21, 2022
Mrs. Menta's Message
Happy Monday Craddock Families!
I hope you had a wonderful weekend and are ready to tackle this small stretch until the Thanksgiving holiday! The cold and snow were timely, that's for sure!
It's difficult to convey how wonderfully special our Veterans celebration was this past Friday. I did my best to help you understand by including some pictures and a short video below, but being there in the gym with 50+ Veterans and their guests was truly something to be seen. We had Craddock students who participate in Cub Scouts open the assembly processing in with the flag and leading us in the Pledge. We sang, read poems, shared thank yous and learned about why they are so very special!
Endless thanks goes out to the Craddock staff, our students, the Elementary PTO and all the parent volunteers who helped pull it off. From setting up the gym to donating treats for the reception, it could not have been done without every single one of them. I am so grateful and have received so many wonderful emails from guests who attended thanking us for putting it on. I am already looking forward to hosting this celebration again next year!
Many thanks to all of our families who were able to attend fall conferences. It was wonderful to see so many folks in the building talking with teachers. Kudos to our staff for hosting such informative and positive meetings. It's a lot of work to prepare for those and they always do a beautiful job! Thank you to Mrs. Nelson and our PTO for providing dinner the first night and snacks the second. It was wonderful and a really nice part of a long day for our teachers.
As a reminder, our trimester ends this Friday, 11/18 and we will be working to prepare the Gather narratives for you to view about your child's progress. While you have gotten some great information from parent/teacher conferences, these narratives will hold some more. Please be prepared to log into your child's portal when they go live on December 2nd. Instructions for accessing that portal can be found below in the Gather letter attached. As always, feel free to contact our main office with questions.
As I wrap up my message for the week, I must take a moment to communicate the retirement of Mrs. Bayer. She has been with Aurora for 24 years and has made her mark! As most of you know, she is the warm, friendly face who runs our office and our school! She is getting ready to close the door on this part of her journey and happily begin the next which will include lots of travel, family and much-needed rest. Her last day at Craddock will be Tuesday, 11/22. Please make sure to wish her well if you are up visiting! We love you Mrs. Bayer and we will never forget you!
The next Weekly Update will go out for the week of November 28th. Until then, take care, stay healthy and enjoy a beautiful Thanksgiving holiday with family, friends and lots of good food! We are off Wednesday, 11/23 through Sunday, 11/27. We can't wait to welcome our friends back on Monday, 11/28.
Best wishes!

News from Mrs. Ambrosia, Craddock's School Counselor
Greetings Families! I hope this finds you enjoying this fall weekend! As the school year progresses, I have had many conversations with families about behaviors presenting at home. Our students do an excellent job of following our school expectations using respect, responsibility and problem solving throughout the day. When they return home to their safe space, there may be a potential rise in behaviors. With this particular age group, I find myself using the Love & Logic approach to interact in a positive manner with the students. As a parent, I have found this blog super helpful. Also, for those students experiencing an emotional overload during unexpected events, it’s often because they’re not sure how to cope or self-regulate. I hope this coping skills poster provides them with some activities to try when feeling overwhelmed.

Car Rider Protocol - IMPORTANT!
Students can be dropped off at 8:40 a.m. at the earliest! Please do not allow them to exit your car until that time, as there is no staff to monitor them. Pick up will begin promptly at 3:10 each day. If everyone knows the system and cooperates, we will have all students in cars in 15-20 minutes.
Here are some things I need all car rider families to do, which will help immensely.
- Please do not use Willard to line up for drop off or pick up. We are working with the police to get it blocked off, but in the meantime, please avoid it. Enter Hurd Road off of New Hudson and begin lining up there. Please see the map below for guidance.
- Parents are not permitted to get out of their car when dropping off or picking up their child(ren). It is one of the main reasons the flow of traffic slows down. If you need to do that, you must pull into a marked parking spot. Again, we ask you don't do it at all. We have plenty of staff available to help your child in or out safely.
- All students must exit their car on the passenger side of the vehicle. We understand this can be tricky with child locks and car seats, but it is in the best interest of all our car riders to have it be this way. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
- We are not permitting people to turn left into the school from Hurd Road. You will be asked to continue down Hurd, turn around and join the end of the line.
- We ask that you please respect the guidelines we have set up and follow them consistently. Everyone involved in the car rider process, staff and parents, thank you!
