Mental Health Newsletter
PCS Mental Health Newsletter, May 2024
Mental Health Awareness Month was established in 1949 to increase awareness of the importance of mental health and wellness in Americans’ lives and to celebrate recovery from mental illness. This Mental Health Month, challenge yourself to examine your world and how it can affect your overall health. Together, we fight stigma, provide support, educate the public and advocate for policies that support the millions of people in the U.S. affected by mental illness.
National School Principals' Day May 1
School Principals' Day on May 1 is your reminder to take time to today and say thank you to the educational leaders who look after your children every day. After all, they guide academic success and set the tone for an entire school. School Principals' Day recognizes the hard work that principals do each year as they work to keep the school progressing from year to year. The day was started by a teacher in Michigan who wanted to take a day to recognize all the unappreciated work that principals do and to spread awareness about the role.
Teacher Appreciation Week May 6 - 12
Former first lady Eleanor Roosevelt began the effort to create Teacher Appreciation Week and National Teachers Day when she urged Congress in 1953 of the need for a day recognizing teachers, according to School Speciality. National Teacher Day was initially celebrated on March 7, but in 1984 was moved to May. At that time the National Teacher Association began calling the entire first week of May as Teacher Appreciation Week. This year, in 2024, Teacher Appreciation Week is from May 6th to May 10th, with Teacher Appreciation Day falling on May 7th.
Teachers Appreciation Week is an occasion where educators are showered with gratitude and recognition for their invaluable service. Teachers take on a tremendous responsibility, shaping the minds of our youth and preparing them for the future. Their patience, passion, and dedication have a lasting impact on countless students. Teacher Appreciation Week has become more than just a gesture of gratitude. It is a wonderful tradition that has endured for more than 70 years.
