Weekly Inspiration
Don't Merely Try Harder, Try Differently
The weekly inspiration video reminds all of us to focus on the joy and the wins in a "job that is not easy". That is why throughout the year, we will continue to reset and focus on your why. It's easy to get lost in the negativity and what didn't go right, but if we remember what the mission is and what we are striving to do for our students, then we can overcome anything.
We are not perfect. We will have plans or lessons that fail. The lesson we hope will ignite curiosity in the classroom may fall flat, but we dust ourselves off, get back up, and try again. Sometimes the best way to learn is to fail. When interviewing our new teachers this summer, I told them that I expect that they will fail at times. And it's ok as long as we are failing forward. That we are continuing to try something new or something different to support students.
I read a quote during a meeting last week that made me think a little bit about this:
"You're more likely to unlock a big leap in performance by trying differently than by trying harder. You might be able to work 10% harder, but a different approach might work 10x better. Remain focused on the core problem, but explore a new line of attack. Persistence is not just about effort, but also strategy. Don't merely try harder, try differently." - James Clear
This week let's think about what we have done or are doing to try differently!

Thank You To:
- Sam Hanley and the yearbook crew for organizing and running our school picture day this week. Also, thank you so all of the staff who had their picture taken so you can be a part of the 100th SHS yearbook!
- All of our staff members who have taken ownership of the bathrooms and gone above and beyond with the supervision responsibilities this year. Some examples are, Donna Bass and Tammy Tellas who don't allow students in the math hallway restroom after the 2 minute countdown. In the world language hallway, Conner McNeely and Chris Sponsler require students to show their ID if they want to enter the restroom during iPass and don't allow entry during the iPass passing time. David Henriott stands inside the restroom in the EL hallway to limit the number of students in the restroom and hands out candy for appropriate behavior. Jason Adler and Christina Ferguson stand outside and constantly monitor inside of the student services restrooms to encourage students to get to class. Mark Duncan and John Davis also monitor the science hallway restrooms and don't allow students to enter when it's close to the end of the passing period. Stephen Burk and Carl Basey check inside the 267 restrooms and supervise the hallway immediately outside. Just to name of few..... :)
