Husky E-News
October 1, 2023
From the Principal
Hillendale families,
I hope you are having a great weekend! With the UCF Centennial Celebration and parade this Friday evening, our districtwide spirit week leading up to the Homecoming Football Game on Friday, "Donuts With Grown Ups", and Book Fair all in one week (whew!) there is much to be excited about at Hillendale! See more information about these events in the sections below.
On Tuesday, October 4th we will hold our first Lockdown Drill of the school year in partnership with Pennsylvania State Police. Although we have been doing Lockdown Drills at Hillendale for many years, I purposefully waited to hold our first drill of the school year with our children this year due to the sensitivity surrounding the escaped prisoner this September. Please know that we handle all drills with sensitivity and take great care not to frighten our children during any drill. I encourage you to talk to your children both before and after the drill on Tuesday to help them prepare and process. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions you might have.
As a reminder, we will have a 2:30 PM Early Dismissal this Friday, October 6th. Please be sure to communicate with our office about dismissal especially if something will be different than typical for your children due to the early dismissal.
Have a great week!
Joshua Leight

Standard Response Protocol & Emergency Preparedness
Throughout the beginning of the school year you may have heard the term "Secure" used several times to describe our district's status as it relates to emergency preparedness. Last school year, UCF adopted the Standard Response Protocol in all our schools. Staff have been trained and continue to learn more about SRP as it relates to best practices across age levels. Attached is a parent guide to SRP. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions you might have. Thank you!

PTO Donates Meals to Oxford Fire Victims
Late in the evening of September 13th, a devastating fire broke out in downtown Oxford that destroyed multiple businesses and homes, displacing over 90 people. Since those early morning hours, SILO in Oxford along with the Oxford Chamber of Commerce has been working tirelessly to support those who lost everything.
SILO, is one of Hillendale’s community partners. Working together, the Hillendale PTO was able to donate 50 boxed dinners to families who are currently in temporary housing using funds from our Penny Drive program.
Special shout out to Kaboburritos who helped the PTO provide these meals.
