It's never too early for high school students to be thinking about their future. We call this their 5-YEAR PLAN. Let's work together to help students toward the direction of their dreams.

If you aren't sure what you want to do after graduation, take the Strengths Explorer career survey assessment on Naviance and see how your interests translate into a future career.

Naviance is the College & Career interactive website all Vista Oaks students have access to through their VO email account that assists students in figuring out what they want to do when they graduate and what colleges and training programs will help them get there.

See what kind of learner you are! Learn about conditions and modes that help you be the most successful as a student.

Make sure to continue moving in the direction of good grades. Ask for help if you need it and stay strong until the end of the semester. College and financial aid are an important part of your future and good grades are a reflection of your commitment.

Take the Practice SAT's and do well and qualify for college scholarships. Ask your advisor to sign up for the test.

If you are planning to apply to a 4-year college right out of HS, you will want to do some volunteer work and explore some hobbies you have. These activities make students well-rounded in life and on their college applications: tutor kids in your neighborhood, play a musical instrument, volunteer at your church, get a job. All of these things are good for everyone!

You can take a virtual tour of many colleges these days. Most California colleges are not doing in-person tours due to the pandemic, but some out-of-state schools are. So check individual schools online to confirm!

Make sure to work with your teacher to select classes that are a good fit for you. Make sure to let your teacher know about your future plans if you have them so they can help you select classes.

Make an appointment and talk to the Academic Counselor about your ideas and future possibilities. Let's look at your transcripts and make a plan!

Eligible students are invited to apply and take a college class at their local community college. This class can be something to meet high school requirements or maybe related to a career interest. Talk to your teacher more about this opportunity!

Take a class at Lincoln Tech Academy for next semester or Senior Year and try on a career class while earning college credit. Ask your teacher and the College Counselor about more info. Check out their website: Lincoln Tech Academy

Every student should apply for financial aid. All CA residents who are first time college students are eligible for free community college if they complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if you have a Social Security Number (SSN) or the CA Dream Act Application if you do not have a SSN. Financial aid can also help all students pay for the costs of college like textbooks, parking permits and bus passes.

Naviance is a great place to search for colleges and apply online! Take virtual tours and connect to college websites and email!

CSU's and UC application window opens 10/1--due 11/30!

Graduates should join the Class of 2024 classroom and check out all the info about financial aid, monthly To-Do lists, and opportunities outside of community college. All grads have been invited.
