Social Emotional Learning January 22nd - 26th
Kindergarten:
Summary:
In this week’s lesson, your child will learn to use body language and context clues to figure out when someone feels mad. They’ll practice looking at the person’s face and body, as well as thinking about what’s going on in the situation.
Try This at Home:
Encourage your child to notice when others around them feel mad. Have them practice using body language and context clues to figure out when family members, friends, or characters in books, movies, or on TV might be feeling mad.
First Grade:
Summary:
In this week’s lesson, your child will learn to use body language and context clues to figure out when someone feels calm. They’ll practice looking at the person’s face and body, as well as thinking about what’s going on in the situation.
Try This at Home:
Encourage your child to notice when others around them feel calm. Have them practice using body language and context clues to figure out when family members, friends, or characters in books, movies, or on TV might be feeling calm.
Imagine Neighborhood:

Second Grade:
Summary:
In this week’s lesson, your child will learn that we can feel disappointed when something we want or expect does not happen.
Try This at Home:
Remind your child that everyone feels disappointed sometimes. Ask them what they can do to feel better the next time they’re feeling disappointed.
Imagine Neighborhood:
Listen with your child to the Imagine Neighborhood podcast, Season 1, Episode 5: The Pixie Pandemic: Macho Has To Stay Inside.
Third Grade:
Summary:
In this week’s lesson, your child will learn words for three degrees of happiness: content, happy, and excited.
Try This at Home:
Ask your child to explain the differences between feeling content, happy, and excited.
Fourth Grade:
Summary:
In this week’s lesson, your child will practice the full goal-setting process as they work toward a 10-minute goal with a group.
Try This at Home:
Work with your child to make a list of 1-week goals you could set as a family. Choose one and make sure it’s specific, challenging, and doable. Follow the goal-setting process to make a plan, check in on how it’s going, and at the end of the week, reflect on how it went and what you could do next time.
Lantern Road Cereal Drive
Please help support the Lantern Road Elementary Cereal Box Drive from January 29th – February 2nd. The L.R.E. student council will be collecting boxes of cereal to donate to a local food pantry. On Friday, we are going to make a cereal box domino. Let’s fill the halls with our cereal donations! Thank you!
Kleenex and Hand Sanitizer Needed
It is that time of year again when classrooms are depleting their supplies of tissues and hand sanitizer. Teachers would greatly appreciate any donations for the upcoming winter season!

DINE TO DONATE FOR 2023-2024 SCHOOL YEAR
The PTO partners with local restaurants for Dine to Donate events throughout the school year. Families are able to enjoy a night off of cooking, either dine in or carry out, with a percentage of the proceeds going back to LRE’s PTO. Below are dates and restaurants for the 2023-2024 school year.

Dining Room Reminders
Breakfast and lunch prices for 2023-2024 are as follows:
- Paid Student Lunch (K-6) $ 2.80
- Paid Student Lunch (7-12) $ 3.00
- Paid Student Breakfast (K-12) $1.50
If you believe your family qualifies for free or reduced-price meals, be sure to fill out the application in Skyward for your student. Families must re-apply for these benefits each year, even if you qualified previously.
Please make sure you have filled out your students' health card alerting of any allergies. If you need to make changes to this please contact Nurse Okuszki at ookuszki@hse.k12.in.us.
If your child would like to purchase additional menu items, you may send cash or check with your child throughout the school year in an envelope with their name and account number, student's teacher, the amount enclosed, and date, OR you can add payments electronically through e-funds. More information on e-fund payment and account set up can be found on the food services website www.schoolnutritionandfitness.com.
If you would like to monitor what your child is buying you CAN put restrictions on their account. Please call or email with those requests to our new Cafeteria Manager Liliana Anguiano at lroblesanguiano@hse.k12.in.us.

Spring Sport Early Bird Registration Begins January 1st
Mark your calendars! Early bird registration for spring baseball, softball, soccer, boys and girls lacrosse, rugby, boys and (new) high school volleyball, track and field and (new) pickleball opens January 1st at myathletics.com. Season information including divisions and program fees will be updated on our site at the end of December. Information packets will be posted here. Please note, the pickleball offering will begin after most spring sport seasons end to encourage multi-sport participation.
Apply For Spring Registration Scholarships
We offer registration scholarships for children who are on free and reduced lunch within the district. Families can apply for one per season per child and must apply and be accepted during our early bird registration period. For spring sports these dates are 1/1 – 1/31. Email info@myathletics.com.
Girls Lacrosse TRY-IT Day – January 21st
For families that are interested in seeing what Mudsock Girls Lacrosse is about, please plan to attend our “Try It Day” on January 21st, 2024, at Mojo-Up Fieldhouse from 10:30 - noon. This is a free event, and all equipment will be provided. If you plan to attend or have any additional questions, please email hsefishersgirlslax@gmail.com. Open to girls in 1st – 8th grade.
