Notes from the Principal
Happy February! We’re looking forward to seeing all of you at parent-teacher conferences this week. You should have received a message through our blackboard portal about signing up for a conference time. If you did not, you can go to swpschools.org and use the sign up genius app to choose a time that will work for you. These meetings are a great opportunity to celebrate your child’s progress and discuss ways to support their continued growth.
As we move through the month, our teachers will be sharing details about upcoming Valentine’s Day celebrations in their classrooms. Be on the lookout for information about party plans and any special activities!
Also, please continue encouraging your child to read at home. Whether it’s a bedtime story, a favorite book series, or a few extra minutes of independent reading, every little bit helps build strong literacy skills.
Thank you for your ongoing support—we appreciate you!

Supporting Your Child’s Reading Success
The Nebraska Department of Education values the role families play in a child’s academic success. Research shows that reading with your child for just 20 minutes a day is one of the most effective ways to build strong early literacy skills and ensure they are reading on grade level by third grade.
This resource offers simple, home-based activities to support reading development, along with helpful videos and information on the Nebraska Reading Improvement Act. Together, we can set students on the path to lifelong learning!

Preschool Updates
Preschool Enrollment Update
The application deadline for preschool enrollment was been extended to January 30th. Our team will review applications this week, and acceptance or waitlist letters will be sent home on Friday.
If any spots remain available, we will announce a second enrollment period.
Thank you for your interest in our preschool program!
After School Child Care Reminder
Reminder: After-school child care is only guaranteed for students with full-time child care status. If you need to use child care on a drop-in basis, you must first call the office to check for availability. If space allows, the office will add your child to the daily list.
Thank you for your cooperation in helping us maintain proper child care ratios, staffing, and snack preparation.
Thank you School Counselors!
Celebrating National School Counseling Week 2025!
National School Counseling Week, "School Counseling: Helping Students Thrive," will be celebrated February 3-7, 2025, to recognize the vital role school counselors play in supporting student success. This week highlights the profound impact school counselors have in helping students reach their full potential.
We are incredibly fortunate to have an amazing school counselor, Mrs. Smith, who continuously goes above and beyond to support our students, staff, and community. Thank you, Mrs. Smith, for all that you do!
