We know that you want the very best for your Brighton students and so do we! Sometimes, it's not easy getting your students to school, but as part of your team, we are here to help. Please reach out to your student's assistant principal or counselor or me. We can work with you to problem solved and/or connect you with resources to help identify and address any obstacles your family may face, like:

Mental health
Family crises
Remember, we are all in this together!
Lunar New Year – 2024
Lunar New Year, often called the Spring Festival or Chinese New Year, is the most important holiday in China and Chinese communities around the world. It is not only celebrated in China. Vietnam, Korea, Malaysia, and Singapore also practice the Lunar New Year holiday. The two-week celebration includes family and friends, feasting and fireworks, parties, and parades. Lunar New Year begins on the date of the second new Moon after the winter solstice, which always occurs in late December. This means that the first day of the Lunar New Year can occur anytime between January 21 and February 20. In 2024, Lunar New Year falls on Saturday, February 10th. In 2024, we ring in the Year of the Dragon, one of 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac. The animal designations of the zodiac follow a 12-year cycle and are always used in the same sequence.

Black History Month Activities
BHS will celebrate Black History Month on Friday, February 16th during a special assembly.
Black Student Union is excited to announce they have secured two amazing speakers for this year's event… Andraé Evans and Constance Patterson! Andraé Evans was recently elected supervisor in the town of Irondequoit. He's the first Black person elected to a supervisor position in a Monroe County suburb. Constance Patterson was appointed as Rochester City Court Judge by Mayor Malik D. Evans on October 2, 2023.
A show-stopping performance by Wilson Magnet High school's -Wilson's Pearls Step Team will follow.
February is Black History Month
February is Black History Month, a time to acknowledge and celebrate the contributions made by Black heroes throughout history. In recent years, it’s also become a time to strengthen allegiance and support with marginalized communities. Each of the school buildings in Brighton will be celebrating learning together with a variety of presentations, literature, and/or activities.
Our families and community can join in, too! Celebrate Black History Month with Smithsonian events, resources, exhibitions, and podcasts. The 2024 theme for Smithsonian is "African Americans and the Arts" spanning the many impacts Black Americans have had on visual arts, music, cultural movements, and more!
Additionally, there are many local celebrations for both adults and children including some listed below:
· Celebrating Black History – City of Rochester
· Memorial Art Gallery - Black History Month DeTOUR
· Friends and Foundation of the Rochester Public Library
