Transition to Cohort On-Campus Learning Update
Dear TVUSD Families and Staff,
We are delighted to see the news release today from Riverside County Public Health officially notifying that Riverside County has met the less than 25/100,000 adjusted case rate and elementary schools are now eligible to transition to on-campus cohort instruction within the Purple Tier, in accordance with CDPH requirements. Today’s adjusted case rate is 16.6.
TVUSD’s COVID-19 Safety Plan is currently with the County, and we had a review with them today to make some minor adjustments. We anticipate approval from the County within the next few days. The State then has seven days to approve the plan. Our timeline is moving forward as we had planned, and we are excited to be on track to bring back our elementary students (grades PreK-5) on March 15 and our secondary students (grades 6-12) on April 5.
All of our school sites are prepared with the appropriate health and safety required protocols. Our timelines are balanced with ensuring our families have the time they need to make the necessary arrangements for childcare, transportation, and family needs.
Our Elementary Timeline:
Friday, 2/19 – Elementary families received site-specific information to help visually understand what the return to on-campus learning within the AM/PM model would look like.
Monday, 2/22 – Elementary families received electronic communication to confirm their previously selected programs. The communication asked families to reconfirm or change their choices by Friday, 2/26. As of today, over 1,400 elementary families have modified their choices, and we are pleased to see so many opting to transition to on-campus cohort learning!
Tuesday, 2/23 – Elementary childcare hub registration closes. As of today, we are pleased to see over 700 elementary families have registered for the childcare hubs.
Thursday, 2/25 – Elementary families will be notified of childcare placements.
Monday, 3/1 through Wednesday, 3/3 – Sites will revise class lists as necessary and align staffing. The goal will be to make as few class assignment changes as possible.
Thursday, 3/4 and Friday, 3/5 – Families will be notified of their students’ assignments.
Thursday, 3/4 through Friday, 3/12 – Staff and families will have time to make daycare, drop-off/pick-up, and work schedule modifications as needed.
Thursday, 3/11 and Friday, 3/12 – These will be asynchronous learning days, so teachers will have time to prepare their classrooms.
Monday, March 15, 2021 – First day of Elementary AM/PM on-campus and online schedule.
Our Secondary Timeline:
Our secondary (grade 6-12) sites are also ready. Because of the work they did to adjust the second-semester schedule in December, with family preferences of on-campus or online being recorded at that time, there are far fewer scheduling adjustments to make. In the next few weeks, secondary families will receive communication from their school site confirming the learning model and cohort their student has been placed in. Families who would like to discuss learning options are encouraged to contact their school office directly for assistance after receiving communication from the site.
We remain optimistic with the current trends that Riverside County will meet the required 7/100,000 adjusted case rate and progress back to the Red Tier that will allow us to transition to our on-campus cohort programs on April 5, 2021. Site-specific health and safety information for the secondary campuses will be distributed before spring break to assist families with visually understanding what the on-campus cohort model will look like.
