Kidsburgh Features #BeTheKindKid
Kidsburgh is featuring Avonworth School District's #BeTheKindKid Kindness in Action campaign!
ASD is a leader in the regional #BeTheKindKid Kindness in Action Campaign. We're so proud of our students and staff, and all the work they do to spread kindness throughout our schools and our community!
KIDSBURGH FEATURE
This fall, you may notice an uptick in kindness from Pittsburgh-area kids.
The #bethekindkid Kindness in Action Campaign kicked off this week, inviting local teachers to advance the role of kindness in their school communities through project-based learning. Kids in K-12 classrooms will be using design thinking to plan, build and share kindness initiatives, maker projects, and art installations during the next few months.

Kindness Program at Work
As part of our kindness program at APC, our students celebrated National Food Bank Day by creating birthday cake boxes for the Mt. Nebo Church Food Bank.
Students in classrooms worked together to create the kit which had ingredients to make a birthday cake and party items.
Students Participate in Naturalization Ceremony
During the ceremony, 24 people from over a dozen different countries became American citizens. Individuals from Afghanistan, Iran, Ukraine, Jamaica, Canada and more took the oath of citizenship after completing the naturalization process.
The Avonworth students led the Pledge of Allegiance and presented each new citizen with a copy of the Good Citizenship Guidebook. This book was created by the 8th grade class last fall and includes important information for citizens about voting, First Amendment rights, and patriotic symbols.
This powerful experience allowed the students to play an important role in one of the most important ceremonies in our nation. The mayor's office, the USCIS, and new citizens were very appreciative and impressed with the students' work.
Beloved Secretary Honored
In memory of long-time Avonworth High School secretary Kathy Stiscak, the Just For Fun Book Club donated $1500.00 to Avonworth Drama.
The money was collected to honor former member Mrs. Stiscak, a long-time fall play and musical supporter who often said, “If I were ever to do something else in life, I would have been an English teacher!” The Drama program will be purchasing new sewing machines this fall with this most generous donation.
Many thanks for such a precious gift!
