What a wonderful first trimester! I am beyond excited to share that we have had an exceptional start to the school year. Our students, staff, and families have shown enthusiasm and dedication to the curriculum and READY expectations. The teachers and staff have been working diligently to create a nurturing and engaging environment for our students.

It was great to see all of the families at parent-teacher conferences. As we continue this journey, I am grateful for your ongoing support. Looking forward to a year filled with learning, discovery, and accomplishments.

• Your child must be fever-free for 24 hours without any medication to return to school if they are ill
• Please send a snack and water bottle to school with your child each day

The Board will vigorously enforce its prohibition against discriminatory harassment based on race, color, national origin, sex (including sexual orientation and transgender identity), disability, age (except as authorized by law), religion, height, weight, marital or family status, military status, ancestry, or genetic information (collectively, "Protected Classes") that are protected by Federal civil rights laws (hereinafter referred to as unlawful harassment), and encourages those within the School District community as well as third parties, who feel aggrieved to seek assistance to rectify such problems.

The Board will investigate all allegations of harassment and in those cases where unlawful harassment is substantiated, the Board will take immediate steps to end the harassment, prevent its recurrence, and remedy its effects. Individuals who are found to have engaged in unlawful harassment will be subject to appropriate disciplinary action.

A special shoutout to Michigan State Police Trooper Don Stewart for popping in at Patterson and Herrick ILCs.

Trooper Don, who is based out of the Monroe Post, engaged with students, addressing crucial topics surrounding online safety and imparting valuable insights on how to navigate the internet securely. Trooper Don, known for fostering a sense of safety and security, has frequently visited TPS, connecting with the younger students.

His engaging sessions are marked by the students' exemplary behavior, demonstrating respect and attentiveness to his valuable guidance.

These visits underscore the commitment to ensuring the well-being of the school community through education and partnership with law enforcement.

It was a shortened day because of the Early Release schedule, but that didn't stop students and staff from Tecumseh Public Schools from celebrating Halloween.

Most of the students and quite a few staff members from Patterson ILC got in the spirit of Halloween and enjoyed the day with a parade that families could participate in.

Now that classrooms are filled up, children might bring back homework and potential illnesses. According to experts, adopting healthy habits such as getting sufficient sleep, managing stress, and consuming nutritious foods can help students avoid getting sick and stop the spread of illnesses during this time of year, especially during the holiday breaks.

The sounds of laughter echoing through school hallways when students return can quickly transform into a chorus of coughs, sniffles, and sneezes. Health professionals suggest that immunizations are a practical starting point for tackling what some call the “back-to-school plague.”

“It’s important to keep your child home when they’re displaying symptoms of a contagious illness,” said Emily Wines, BSN, RN, school nurse at Tecumseh Public Schools. “If they show signs of fever, rash, uncontrolled cough, or vomiting/diarrhea, please do not send them to school.”

With the school year in full swing, changes during holiday breaks can alter students’ sleep routines and elevate their daily stressors, weakening their immune defenses against illnesses.

Adopting healthy lifestyle habits, such as ensuring adequate sleep and consuming nutritious foods, enhances the immune system’s ability to fight illnesses.

“Regular hand washing is also crucial to prevent the spread of germs,” said Wines. “This practice can contribute to maintaining the health of your younger children and preventing the transmission of illnesses between students, schools, and homes.”

Establishing a routine for your kids is recommended, and implementing one is still possible.
