Welcome Back!
Hello King Families,
This year I will be working with students in Kindergarten and Grade 1. Students will either receive English instruction in the classroom focusing on reading and writing or students will be pulled out in small groups working on English language development in the areas of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. We will begin each class with the daily routine. This involves a combination of a message, classroom expectations, calendar, letter identification, sounds, and the reading of common sight words. Students will have reading partners, read messages, and learn to read "just right" books.
In writing, students will use sentence starters, word banks, and sentence frames. There are five word lists that will be reviewed and can be found further down in this Smore for students to practice reading. In writing, students will also be practicing how to label a picture, write letters on lined paper, and will learn to talk out ideas before trying to put those ideas onto paper. Some students may draw a picture, write letters to resemble writing, or will be writing simple sentences to a picture. Additionally, students will improve social and academic vocabulary, common greetings, and how to advocate for themselves when they need help.
Warm Regards,
Ms. Colby
