F.O.R. project intends to apply innovative CLIL method to multilingual learning-teaching system in upper secondary education, with the regard to develop academic language skills related to Botany vocabulary and mythology, and social language abilities in English. So, upper secondary pupils, organised in international groups, are going to work simultaneously on various contents in English (Botany related vocabulary in English and modern languages, classical roots of Botany vocabulary, classical myths and plants) belonging to more than one academic discipline: modern languages (English and partners` mother tongues: Spanish, Basque, Italian, and Greek), classical languages and literatures (Latin and Ancient Greek), classical culture (Mythology), natural science (Botany related vocabulary), and computers (on line platforms and applications). @FORErasmus / email@example.com
F.O.R. project partners
IES URBI high school (project coordinator / Basauri, Basque Country, Spain) is specialized in multilingual education based on CLIL (Content and Language integrated Learning), and since 2008-2009 has been holding annual European projects, involving school exchanges, with some European schools to improve school community linguistic competences in English.
Liceo Plinio Seniore high school (Castellammare di Stabia, Campania, Italy) puts great emphasis on language learning (English, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, and Chinese) to provide cultural alternatives which will guide the students and the community on social development of economic sectors such as cultural, naturalistic and thermal tourism.
Varvakeio lyceum (Athens, Attike, Greece) is one of the 47 “Model Experimental” state schools in Greece that pursues “Excellence”. Since having English as the first language, this school accepts foreign students that make there their short-term stages of practice.
- The entire school community of the three schools: target students, non target students, target teachers, non target teachers, school workers, families, local educational institutions and non educational institutions .
- Target-groups are composed by students of Upper Secondary and Baccalaureate (aged 15-18 years) who learn Classical Culture, Latin, Greek, Science, Computing, and Biology.
- Target group students will acquire English academic language skills related to Botany vocabulary through classical roots finding to B2 level.
- Target group students will acquire English academic language skills to B2 level, by means of learning contents related to classical myths and plants.
- Target group students will improve English linguistic competences to B2 level in real-life situations, by means of working collaboratively and interacting socially with foreign students.
- Target group students will improve and acquire the vocabulary related to Botany in both mother and partners` languages (Spanish, Basque, Italian, and Greek).
- Target group students will improve ICT skills by applying web 2.0 resources to CLIL.
- School communities will improve their plurilingual and intercultural competences through interaction with foreign partners.
Project main results
- The collaborative glossary of words about the morphology of the vascular plants in the wiki.
- The collaborative dictionary of mythological plants in the wiki.
- Three times per school year, during the mobilities in Castellammare, Athens and Basauri, the target groups of each school shall prepare, conduct, and assess project activities (Presentations, Mythological Garden, Mithological Gymkhana, on line exercises) together with representatives from the other two schools, who will be accommodated in foster school families.
Visiting the Byzantine museum, the Lykeion of Aristoteles and the National Garden
- CLIL: English is going to be used as a vehicular language in order to learn official contents on Botany vocabulary and classical mythology in different subjects during school hours.
- Collaborative international work: target students, organised in international groups, work simultaneously in project activities.
- Interdisciplinary teaching: contents will be develop in more than one academic discipline simultaneously.
- Information and Communications Technology supporting CLIL: web 2.0 tools and resources shall be used by school community to communicate and to create, store, disseminate, and manage information.
