Writing an Argumentative Essay (for real!)
After studying argumentative texts and essays back in March, Kallen & Michael took it upon themselves to write Governor Abbott a letter regarding the STAAR test. They stated their claim which was to allow students the option to take it on paper or on the computer. They gave amazing reasons supporting their claim and sent the letter to him in April. He wrote back, and the boys were over the moon excited!
All Things Texas
Fourth Grade celebrated "all things Texas" after a fun year of learning all about our state’s history! We were visited by a local artist John Robinson, enjoyed some Texas foods & played Texas Bingo.
Some famous Texans were in the halls at GES as well! We saw...
- Stevie Ray Vaughan
- Lady Bird Johnson
- Charles Goodnight
- Oliver Loving
A Novel Celebration
Mrs. Foster and Mrs. Keel's 3rd grade reading classes celebrated the end of their novel study over "Because of Winn-Dixie" with a fun party that went along with the book. Get your shine on!
3rd grade celebrated everyone's birthday with an end of the year glow party! We had dancing, face painting, glow sticks, ice creams, and cupcakes. Everyone had a blast!
Readers are Champions

For the last 9 week grading period, 120 students participated in Readers are Champions and read a combined total of 80,732 minutes! And, to sum up the 2022-23 school year, our Tigers read a sum total of 381,784 minutes. That's a lot of reading! The students who participated were recognized with a certificate and a special treat provided by Small Town Sweet Tooth. Thank you so much for your "sweet gesture"!

Under a Microscope
Coach McDaniel's science students are using the new microscopes that were purchased with the Gunter GIFT grant to observe microorganisms in pond water. Thank you, GIFT (and Coach Mac) for making learning fun!
Butterfly Release at GMS
Mrs. Hoel in the GMS Library had a special treat for Mrs. Loewen’s class and surprised the students with a Butterfly Garden. The students first watched the “cup of caterpillars” crawl around and begin to build their chrysalis. Books were read, videos were watched, and lessons were enjoyed all about the Butterfly Life Cycle and The Monarch Migration. Ten caterpillars were observed over a 3-week period as the amazing stages of caterpillar to chrysalis to butterfly were brought to life in the library! At the end of this journey, the students helped Mrs. Hoel with the release of 8 butterflies on the GMS campus. One little butterfly struggled to break free from the chrysalis and was unable to stretch out its wings. It will remain in the care of Mrs. Hoel. Thank you, Mrs. Hoel, for this amazingly wonderful project that captured the student’s attention!
Book Reports - The Boxes of Champions!
Sometimes it's just more fun to do things in a different way. After reading their book of choice, Mrs. Schroeter's students were tasked to complete a book report.... but not the way you might think! These book reports were created on cereal boxes! The students did a great job adding all of the components to their Cereal Box Book Report. These were on display in the library, and are so much fun to look at.
Well done, students!
Sarah Claunch - New Gunter Middle School Principal
We are excited to welcome Mrs. Sarah Claunch to the Tiger family. In her own words, "My name is Sarah Claunch and I am honored and excited to be named the Gunter Middle School Principal! I am thrilled to work alongside the staff and parents of Gunter to serve the students and community. I am just finishing up my 16th year in education. I started my career teaching middle school choir and later taught in the general education classroom. I have spent the last 6 years serving as an assistant principal in Frisco ISD. I graduated with a bachelor's in music education from Southern Methodist University (pony up!) and received my Master of Education in Administration from Lamar University. I married a fellow educator, Philip, and we have two kids, Warren (8) and Eleanor (3). We live in Celina and when we are not working, we love to spend time camping in our travel trailer. Our whole family loves sports, so most of the fall and spring you can find us at games or watching them on our back patio. It is a dream come true to serve this community and I am eager to get started. TPW and go tigers! "

Cinco de Mayo Celebration in Spanish Class
Mrs. Nichols' Spanish classes learned about the history of Cinco de Mayo and celebrated in class (on Friday, May 5th) with tissue flowers they made and food items they brought in to share. The flowers look great and the food was scrumptious!

Senior Night
Senior Night was held on May 1st. The following things happened during the celebration:
- Academic Awards
- Scholarship Recognition
- Annual Senior Slide Show
- Rose Ceremony
- Celebratory cake
The class, in total, earned over 3 million dollars in scholarships!
Senior Walk
The seniors gathered at the elementary in their graduation gowns and took a walk through time. Many of them started at our elementary school and grew with each grade level ... all they way to the 12th grade. For an elementary student, that seems like an eternity, but it is the PRESENT for this class.
The elementary students love cheering them on, getting high fives, handing them cards, and dreaming of one day becoming a senior. This will always be a special memory, hold it in your heart!
Graduation
The Senior Class of 2023 took their final walk as GHS students on May 25th on their own turf! Students crossed directly in front of the amazing crowd in the stands and onto Tiger Field to claim their well deserved diplomas. The setting could not have been more perfect! We had beautiful flowers designed by our own floral department (Mrs. Osburn and her students). The balloon backdrop and the 2023 added a fun element for a photo op. The weather was just cool enough with a slight breeze. To say it was a perfect ending would be an understatement. The faculty, staff, and administration work hard to make this night a success and they knocked this one out of the park! Thank you to the School Board members who were present.

The youngest musical theatre students students performed 101 Dalmations, and knocked it out of the park! There were so many who wanted to participate, every show had a different cast.
Horticulture students help "freshen up" the Administration building.
We are giving our Admin building a fresh look! New paint, woodwork repairs and plants have made it look so much better!
Tiger Horticulture was tasked with installing the new landscaping. Mrs. Osburn designed the beds, Abby Marks traveled with her to pick out the plants and Caseyn Ploch led a crew of 8th grade students to help implement the project. These kids know how to work hard! Thank you Zaiden Choate, Landon Harris, Hudson Kelly, Zach Hales & Brody Bracewell. Ag Programs teach so many skills!
