Principal's Note
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Wow, what an amazing first week we've had at school! Our little otters have been absolute superstars, showing the Otter Way: Be Safe, Be Responsible, Be Kind with flying colors. Our dedicated teachers have been nothing short of incredible, helping our students get to know each other, understand the Otter Way, dive into the 7 Habits, and develop a real love for reading and math.
I had the pleasure of spending some quality time with our otters during lunch, and it's been a joy to see our youngest Kindergarten otters learn the ropes of transitioning from lunch to recess. They're getting better at opening those tricky milk cartons and lunch containers each day. And our older otters? Well, they've been busy making new friends and having a blast during recess and lunchtime.
One of our big goals this year is to keep you in the loop every week. So, every Friday, be on the lookout for our school-wide newsletter. It's your go-to source for upcoming events, highlights from our special classes, updates from our Parent Leadership Team (SCO), attendance info, volunteer opportunities, community happenings, and more
But wait, there's more! Your child's teacher will also be sending out a grade-level newsletter each week. These newsletters will give you a sneak peek into what our otters are learning in literacy, math, and social-emotional development. Plus, you'll get the lowdown on grade-level celebrations, upcoming events, and all the contact information from the fantastic grade-level classroom teachers.
You might notice that some of our grade-level newsletters are available in different languages. We're doing this because we want every family to have access to school info, no matter what language you speak. We're using some nifty Artificial Intelligence software for translations, but we'll admit, it's not perfect. If you spot any translation quirks, don't hesitate to reach out to your child's classroom teacher for clarification.
And remember, this Smore school newsletter can be translated into many languages too. Just click the translation bar and pick your preferred language.
We're incredibly proud to be offering newsletters in multiple languages, ensuring that every parent in our school community feels welcomed, valued, and cherished.
Thanks again for an incredible week. Wishing you and your family an awesome weekend ahead.
Un abrazo,
Mrs. Bell

Arrival & Dismissal Procedures Starting September 11
Hello 4K Parents,
We extend our heartfelt thanks for joining us at our Open House on Wednesday. It was a pleasure meeting you, and we are thrilled to welcome your little otters next Monday.
In preparation for the upcoming school year, we have thoroughly reviewed safety guidelines with our 4K staff and Director, in alignment with the District's safety procedures for arrival and dismissal.
For the safety and well-being of all our students, it is imperative that:
**All parents must PARK in the designated parking lot** and proceed to **DOOR #1** to either drop off or pick up their 4K students. For safety reasons, children cannot walk to the car with their siblings, and older siblings cannot escort their 4K siblings to Ms. Ali. In summary, as caregivers, you are required to drop off and pick up your 4K students every day at Door 1.
**Parents are kindly requested to park in the designated parking lot** and refrain from using the drop-off and pick-up line.
Please note that this message is not for students who take the bus.
We understand that this may pose some inconvenience for some of you. However, please rest assured that as a school district, our foremost priority is the safety and security of every single one of our students.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in helping us maintain a secure and nurturing environment for all our young learners.
Warm regards,
Mrs. Bell

Library with Mrs. Zuelsdorf 📖
What's happening in the library? This week every grade level came up with what our library expectations are for the school year. We modeled and practiced what it looks and sounds like to come to library class and check out books. In the coming weeks, we will explore the library space a little more, check out books to take home, and read some great books together! Grades 3-5 will be utilizing some technology as well!
Art with Mrs. Becker 🎨
For our first week in Art, our young artists have been discussing how to follow the Otter Way in the Art Room. We have been sharing our ideas on how we can be safe, be kind, and be responsible during their weekly art class. We also made sure to save time for creating! Otters learned about and practiced watercolor painting and oil pastel techniques We are all very excited to get started on our first project next week - creating a school-wide mural!
Music with Mrs. Glover🎵
We have had a wonderful start to our year in the music room. Our first week consisted of community-building activities, practicing procedures, modeling expectations, and collaborating with first through fifth-grade otters about how we can best show "The Otter Way" in the music room. Students did a great job listening and sharing ideas with each other.
This month, we have an exciting music opportunity coming to ALL elementary schools. On Tuesday, September 19, a group called "Dancing Drum" will be coming to Meadow View to create an interactive performance with all of our leaders. Check out the Dancing Drum Website for more information.
The fun does not stop there! We will also have Family Drum Night (FDN). The FDN will take place at 6:00 PM and last about 45-60 minutes. Meadow View will be teaming up with CH Bird families and students to participate AT CH BIRD. This is sure to be a fun and memorable evening for our Otters and YOU! I will be sending information home with students as September 19th gets closer.
5th Orchestra with Mr. Marjamaa
First week of orchestra will start on Monday, September 18th. Students will learn how to hold and take care of their instruments along with learning the names of the open strings and songs from their music books during the month of September. I can't wait to get started!!
P.E. with Mr. Fechtner and Mr. Tooz 🏀
The first week in P.E, we focused on reviewing and demonstrating our expectations of what it looks like, sounds like and feels like to be safe, be kind, be responsible while in the gym. In K-3 we are working on cooperation to start next week and how we can best team up and support each and every learner in our classroom. For our 4th and 5th graders we will begin our biking unit right away next week where we will be riding bikes and practicing best bike safety (Hand signals, helmet check, bike check, traffic safety rules)! At the end of this month we will start our throwing and catching unit for Kindergarten-3rd grade with 4th and 5th to follow after biking, breaking down and practicing the skills of underhand throwing and overhand throwing in a variety of small-sided games.
