East Central

It's been a great summer and start to there to the fall. East Central High School continues to be one of the finest school in southeast Indiana from 42 in-house dual credit offerings, to leading the State of Indiana in Ivy Tech's Crossing the Finish Line Initiative, to creating and implementing 17 in-house graduation pathways in CTE areas, to reaching the highest levels of success in the arts and on the playing fields. In just last two months, our FFA and FCCLA students have had some great successes/experiences as well thanks to Mr. Johnson, Mr. Snider, Mrs. Osman, Ms. McConnell. Makenzie Kelley specifically won the FCCLA National Vice President position for the 23-24 school year. Beauty and the Beast was a great success this past June and our band students have had a great July with their first movement and choreography already complete for the fall competition season. Starting off strong, we had a great turn out for orientation and open house August 8th and currently rank in the top 5 in the state in two fall sports. The building project is in it's final stages with some odds and ends left to complete and the campus looks amazing! We are truly blessed with great kids, wonderful facilities, and such a supportive community. EC is a school...family in which we can all take great pride. As I enter year six here at EC with you and your children, my mission continues to be guided by the same principles I came here with…to make connections, to provide the best opportunities for our students, and perhaps most importantly, to offer a safe and secure school environment where your child/student can grow and thrive as an academic and as a person.

It is essential as we continue the great work East Central has become known for that we keep our focus on consistent and clear communication between students, staff, and community regarding mission, vision, successes, hopes, and desires. We must also continue our attention to best-practices and alignment across content areas to ensure continued academic success and even moreso, student growth and improvement. Please know how thankful I am to be here with your student(s), this staff, and this community. I take great pride in what we have done and what we will continue to do in our pursuit of excellence. And, a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY to East Central High School...turning 50 this month!

East Central High School would like to recognize senior student Ms. Olivia Rosemeyer as “Student of the Month”. Olivia is the daughter of Andrew and Laura Rosemeyer of Logan. Olivia has maintained an impressive 4.084 GPA her first 3 years of high school. She is a member of the EC Dance Team (Captain), Tennis Team, National Honor Society, Senior Scholarship Committee, Dearborn County Ambassadors and Young Life.

Olivia is a recipient of the prestigious ECHS Academic Honor Jacket, Trojan Spirit Award, Top Performer Dance award and was on the Sectional Tennis Championship team. In her free time, she enjoys helping younger dancers learn technique as well as teach younger kids about drug prevention. She also enjoys going to youth group with her friends, working out and boating with her family!

ECHS Biology & Biomedical Science teacher, Mr. Medlock shares that “Olivia exemplifies a student first and athlete second lifestyle, she has focused intentions on her future degree path and envelopes what "We are.....EC!" really means each and every day in the classroom”. Olivia plans to study nursing after graduation. When asked what advice she would give to other students she responded, “Don’t take for granted the opportunities that are right in front of you!” She would like to thank her parents, Andrew and Laura for teaching her life lessons and always inspiring her into becoming the young woman she is today!

We are incredibly proud to announce that the 2023-24 course inventory has more than 200 course opportunities for students. This includes more than 50 dual credit courses with over 162 available college credits, 10 Advanced Placement courses and 17 Graduation Pathways for students to choose from.

Advanced Placement Exam Registration

Students are in the process of registering for their AP exams in their classes. The AP exam registration deadline is October 4. The state will cover the costs for Math, Science, Computer Science and ELA exams. All other exams are $97 and payment is due by November 15. (Checks payable to East Central High School). Please give to Mrs. Colegate in the front office.

Dual Credit Information for Parents and Students

Did you know ECHS has over 50 courses that students can earn college credit in. Last year East Central High School students earned over $1,000,000 in college credit from Ivy Tech and Indiana University. Students and families can save the cost of an entire year of college by completing this Indiana College Core (formerly known as the STGEC) checklist right here at ECHS. Dual Credit Registration and Knowledge Assessment Qualification

All students taking a dual credit course this year must complete the Knowledge Assessment test in their MyIvy account. Students must score a 70 or better to qualify (earn) for the dual college credit.

SAT Bootcamp

NEW Parent & Family Hub - Indiana Learning Lab
Earlier this month, the Indiana Department of Education launched a new feature in the Indiana Learning Lab: The Parent & Family Support Hub! The Indiana Learning Lab, first launched in 2021 to support our educators, has now grown to more than 44,000 users. As student and educator needs evolve, the Learning Lab is evolving as well. The new Parent and Family Hub was launched as a way to support parents and families of students in early learning through grade 12. The platform will feature vetted websites, videos, workshops, and other content focused on literacy and STEM instruction, in particular.

Class of 2023 & Beyond - Graduation Pathways

Students no longer have to “pass a test” to earn their high school diploma! Students will now complete what is known as “Graduation Pathways” to graduate high school in the state of Indiana. The start of the school year has been a whirlwind of activity for the Guidance Department. We have been working diligently with each grade level and new enrollments to ensure that students are set up for a successful academic year. The ECHS Guidance Department is staffed by three counselors who cover students assigned by the following alphabet:

Key items per grade:

Seniors: There will be a Senior Parent Meeting on August 24th from 6:30-8pm in the Performing Arts Center. During the meeting, we will review the options available to students after high school graduation along with other guidance. Counselors presented the same outlined material to senior English classes.

Seniors were also asked to create their Parchment.com accounts, which enables them to electronically send their transcripts to colleges. Many representatives from colleges will be reaching out for meetings during school with seniors throughout the semester.

SAT will be available to seniors that would like additional test scores on Oct. 1st (Saturday). To register for this test date or additional dates please sign up on collegeboard.org.

Juniors: The PSAT (10/25) and ASVAB (9/21) tests will be available to the Juniors during the school day. The PSAT is a practice test for the SAT and qualifier for the National Merit Scholarship. The ASVAB test option is a qualifier for students who need to meet the Graduation Pathway option for graduation. Counselors will discuss these options with the Juniors.

Juniors should take the SAT and/or ACT this year for admittance into the classic four-year college. Many colleges have decided to go Test Optional due to Covid, but it is still recommended that Juniors test in case testing optional requirements change. Securing a good test score by the end of the junior year will allow the college application process to start smoothly at the beginning of senior year. Upon completion of the PSAT as sophomores, all students reviewed how to prepare for the SAT/ACT using Khan Academy. Sophomore and Freshman: These students should focus on their grades to build a strong transcript which will enable the most opportunities for them.

Sophomores will take the PSAT on October 25th. The PSAT is a practice test for the SAT which is used for college admission. The SAT will be available to all Juniors in March of their Junior year.

Attention Dual Credit Students

If you are enrolled in a Dual Credit course, you must register and meet any Knowledge Assessment (KA) requirements by September 13. September is almost here, so it's crunch time if you have not started. It takes several days to complete all the steps, so there's no way to begin on the 13th. Login to Dual Enroll to check your status. If you need a higher KA score, get back in there and take the relevant mini-tests until you reach the goal!

Ivy Tech College Connection Coach

For students working on achieving the Indiana College Core and needing to pick up courses, Ivy Tech has multiple eight-week sessions throughout the school year. These are online, virtual, in-person, or blended classes; students choose whatever works best. As an East Central High School student, there is potentially a full scholarship for these courses, and books are potentially free.

Save Time, Save Money, Get a Degree

The Associate Accelerated Program (ASAP) is an 11-month program, which is student focused and designed to support, encourage, and mentor students throughout their first year of college. This program is great for students who prefer smaller class sizes and who prefer to be on a first name basis with their professors. ASAP works with students to build confidence before transferring to a 4-year university to get their bachelor’s degree or going into the workforce. Applications are now being accepted for the next cohort. ECHS Landscape Students/FFA Members Complete National FFA Living to Serve Grant

When you enter East Central High School from Schuman Road or Trojan Road you will

notice new landscaping that was completed by East Central High School Landscape and Turf

Management students as a part of a $3000 National FFA Organization Living to Serve Grant that the FFA chapter received in the fall semester of 2022. This is part of an ongoing project called EC Re-Leaf, and was completed without any costs to the school. EC Re-Leaf promotes the use of native plants in the landscape. The Landscape and Turf Management students began the project by removing old juniper shrubs from the existing planting beds along the main drive along the north side of the high school with the help of Rick Singer and Tom Beck, Sunman-Dearborn Maintenance personnel. An initial design was drawn up, and plants were ordered from Natorp’s in Mason, Ohio. Fifty-nine plants were delivered in May to complete the landscape beds along the driveway, and nearly 100 native perennials produced from seed in the ECHS greenhouse were planted in various beds on campus to provide more greenery on the campus. in May to complete the project at the east entrance. Students correctly planted the shrubs and perennials, and also mulched the areas. Landscape Management and Horticultural Science students will provide continual care and maintenance to the plantings from now on. The plants consist of 59 native, deciduous shrubs and trees, and over 100 native perennials which included flowering plants and sun loving perennials. The shrubs were planted by the Landscape Management 2 students, and the perennials were planted by the Landscape and Turf Management students. All of the plants will provide not only an attractive landscape, but also food and habitat for bird species, pollen and nectar for pollinators, and will give visitors to the high school a chance to see how native plants can be used in the landscape. This area will also have signage to identify the plants. This planting is a welcome addition to the high school, and provided students in the ECHS agriculture program and FFA chapter another practical, real world experience.

From Monday July 10-Wednesday July 12, eight members of the East Central FFA Chapter arrived at the Indiana FFA Leadership Center in Trafalgar, Indiana for the annual member retreat. Members were able to discuss the program of activities. The next day, as a group, members completed a service project around the center by pruning shrubs and performing landscape clean-up. Members visited Creek Cattle Company at Indian Creek High School to learn more about their cattle operation and how it benefits the school and community. On the final morning of the retreat, members completed a ropes challenge course and learned how to better work as a team.

Welcome Alyssa Moorman to the EC Business Department! Mrs. Moorman graduated from Franklin County High School in 2006. She graduated from IUPUC with her Bachelor’s in Business Management in 2010. In 2015 she participated in a Transition To Teaching program, for business, at Taylor University and joined the education world. Later on she received her Master’s in Business Education from Ball State, which has allowed her to offer dual credit courses from Ivy Tech to her students for several years and now she can offer them here at EC. She focuses on the management side of business here at EC and also oversees the student-run spirit store, The Trojan Exchange. In her spare time she enjoys traveling, camping, spending time with her family and pups and watching her kids play all of their sports. She is very passionate about teaching business and getting her students excited about the subject area, she cannot wait to connect with her EC students this year! We are…..EC!

Throughout the past month in my engineering classes, the students have been carrying out a number of different types of projects/assignments. My Introduction to Engineering and Design classes have been learning the basics of the Design Process and how to write Design Briefs. They have been completing different activities that require them to work in teams, work through the design process, including brainstorming, using engineering notebooks, and creating concept sketches to show off their ideas. We are really focusing on the basics of engineering and design so that later in the year we can complete more complex hands on projects.

My Civil Engineering class has spent the majority of the last few weeks learning about different house styles. The students had to research a house style of their choice and create a presentation to show to the class. Lately we have been working to create multiple sketches of a house that they are going to 3D model out of foam board. I can’t wait to see how their houses turn out throughout the next couple of weeks. Their sketches look really good. We also completed a tower challenge where the students had to build a tower using only spaghetti, masking tape, and a limited amount of string to hold up a marshmallow. The winning team is pictured below.

My Computer-aided-Design class has been working on learning the basics of design, working with measurement, technical drawings, and dimensioning. This week we also started working with AutoCAD, creating drawings of multiple objects. For the majority of the first quarter we are going to continue working with AutoCAD 2024. Along with that, my students have also begun designing objects on Autodesk Inventor. One part that was created and then 3D printed, is a block EC that the middle school is using this year(it is pictured below). We have also started creating some preliminary designs for the Trojan Exchange.

This year is the first year that we have offered Aerospace Engineering here at EC, and my class is very excited to have this experience. Up to this point, we have researched the history of Aerospace and Aviation, Created a class presentation/timeline of the most important achievements in the field, have have also begun learning the components of an aircraft and learning the basics on how they fly and how different components react to the inputs of pilots. We have also started working with a flight simulator. Later in the quarter, the students will have to prove that they can take off from one airport, fly to another, and then successfully land the plane. We have so many more cool projects that we will complete throughout the school year and I cannot wait to see how my class does.

Mr. Meiner’s English 10 students have kicked off the year with a short story unit where we are covering plot, conflict, theme, and characterization. Students are reading short stories as well as creating plot charts and story maps. Also, we have had classroom discussions about why reading is important and how it impacts our lives. Students have been engaged and hardworking so far!

During the first week, Ms. Huber’s students practiced writing professional emails. This week, students have been taking the NWEA, and we will be reading our first short story, "The Sniper."

Freshmen in Mrs. Stanley's English 9 are working hard on completing the first round of NWEA testing. Juniors in Mrs. Stanley are working on Native American Myths and learning what values, lessons, and cultural characteristics can be found within each story.

After getting to know one another through class presentations, English 11 will focus on the American Dream through American Literature. To begin our American Lit journey, juniors in Dr. Rose-Ronnebaum's classes practiced reading and responding to Native American Origin Myths in groups using Actively Learn. Classes will cover the Iroquis, Modoc, and Navajo Indians. It is amazing to know how many students have a strong lineage to a tribe!

In English 9, Dr. Rose-Ronnebaum’s students are taking the NWEA. On a fun note, we learned about one another through class presentations on their "Why?" aka "their purpose" in life. We got to hear about families and hopes for the future. Freshmen had some awesome goals in life, and I look forward to walking the journey with students to achieve those goals!

Mrs. Gooodpaster’s seniors have hit the ground running this year. They are working through a career writing unit that focuses on resumes, cover letters, employability skills, a common application narrative and will cover professional emails before they start exploring Beowulf by the end of August! Mrs. Goodpaster’s sophomores have finished NWEA and are working through short stories before transitioning into writing a personal narrative of their own so they can apply the short story elements they are studying now to their own writing.

Mrs. Tucker’s English 9 students participated in a Euphemism Tournament. Students submitted their best euphemisms from a handout done in class then they went head to head to determine the winner. Students voted with whiteboards. A good time was had by all!

In Mrs. Trossman’s COMM101 - Ivy Tech Speech, students are delivering their first speech: an introductory speech that incorporates the wisdom of a proverb. Mrs. Trossman’s Honors English 10 sophomores are reviewing MLA conventions in preparation for their writing this semester, and her ENG111 - Ivy Tech Composition students are drafting their first major composition, which is a personal narrative.

The students in Ms. Jackson’s Ivy Tech English 111 class have been working on narrative essays as the first in the series of academic papers they will write for the course. They are perfecting elements of storytelling including building a strong introduction, creating flow with transitions, adding interest with sensory imagery, examples, and vivid verbs, and editing for concision. On Tuesday, students practiced creating effective and engaging attention getters by selecting statistics and quotes to intrigue readers.

Mrs. Ketcham’s Honors English 12 students began the year writing their college application essays. Rough drafts are looking great! In preparation for reading Beowulf, they are learning about the Anglo-Saxons by “escaping” from an Anglo-Saxon funeral. Mrs. Ketcham’s AP Literature students are beginning the process of analyzing poetry by “puzzling” their way through Maggie Smith’s “Good Bones.”

Advanced Fashion and Textiles Classes- These students have studied what influences clothing from the social, political, economic, technological, and cultural perspectives. They ended the unit researching specific cultural/regional clothing items and created a google slide presentation.

Advanced Child Development-As a class we discussed why it is important to study child development. We reminisced about our own childhoods and shared some memories each of us had. At the end of the unit, after the quiz, students finger-painted to reflect on their youth.

Education Pathways I & II- The ‘cadet’ teachers have now had the opportunity to investigate the characteristics that they find important in a teacher and to share why they want to be a teacher. They have also had the last 2 weeks to begin shadowing in the classrooms at the elementary and middle schools. The cadet teachers are already experiencing a lot of opportunities.

Intro to Culinary Arts & Hospitality

Students in Intro to Culinary Arts began the school year by learning about Food Safety & Sanitation. They learned about the most common causes & symptoms of foodborne illness and how they could prevent them by applying their knowledge of the 4 C’s (Clean, Combat Cross Contamination, Cook, & Chill) of Food Safety. Students got to experience a “Food Science” experiment, testing bacteria growth at room temperature versus refrigerated temperature. Students learned bacteria grow fastest at room temperature aka- “Temperature Danger Zone!” This coming week students will demonstrate their knowledge of food safety through a culinary lab making “Chicken Stir Fry”. Next month students will begin learning about Kitchen Safety & Preventing Accidents in the Kitchens then Proper Measuring Techniques.

ProStart 1: Culinary Arts & Hospitality

Students in ProStart 1 began the year learning about the Hospitality Industry. Students have had the opportunity to evaluate the various parts of the foodservice industry including the commercial versus noncommercial segments. Students first explored the commercial restaurant and foodservice segment including: Restaurants, Catering & Banquets, Retail, and Stadiums. Then they learned about the smaller noncommercial foodservice segment including: Schools & Universities, Health-care facilities, Business & Industry, Club & Government facilities. They’ve also learned about the various segments of the hospitality industry including travel, tourism, foodservice, lodging & event management. Students learned the travel & tourism industry is a huge part of Culinary/Hospitality! Students began their experience in the culinary lab with practicing “Mise en Place” and measuring. Students will continue to demonstrate their knowledge of the Hospitality Industry through a variety of culinary labs including making “Small Bite” Appetizers that you would see at a catered event or banquet center. Next month students will learn about early contributors to the hospitality industry and their impact on management philosophy and leadership.

ProStart 2: Advanced Culinary Arts

Students in ProStart 2 began the year with learning about Stocks, Sauces, and Soups as well as Nutrition per their Ivy Tech Course. They created a white chicken stock which we will use to turn into delicious sauces and soups soon! Students also had the opportunity to use some in season ingredients including fresh picked tomatoes, peppers, and jalapenos.

ProStart 1 & 2: Advanced Culinary courses earn dual credit with Ivy Tech!!

FCCLA

Chapter-FCCLA introductory day was held in all HS FCS Classes on Friday, August 11th where officers shared with students the activities, service projects and travel opportunities with all FCS Students. Students also participated in the STEP 1 Activity where they learned the basics of FCCLA. They also learned the FCCLA Mission. Students were encouraged to come to the Ice Cream Social.

The East Central FCCLA held their annual Ice Cream Social on August 15th in the ECHS Cafeteria. Members enjoyed lots of ice cream with toppings and fun icebreakers so students could get to know each other. The officer team was introduced and they shared many events and service projects that FCCLA participates in throughout the year.

State-The East Central State Officers; Jocelyn Inderhees, Maleighnal Mondal and Alexandra Seubert attended the Indiana State Officer training August 17-19th. The officers worked at the Indiana State Fair at the Indiana Dairy Bar on Thursday after school. On Friday and Saturday they planned the FCCLA Fall Rally event that will take place in late September.

National- Mak Kelley, East Central HS Senior, was elected the National 1st Vice President in July at the National FCCLA Conference. August 24-August 29th, Mak Kelley and Mrs. Osman traveled to Herndon, Virginia for National Executive Council training and the National Board of Directors Meeting. This was a great opportunity for Mak to meet with the other 9 officers and plan the National Fall Conference and Capital Leadership Training. Mrs.Osman also worked with the other 9 National Executive Council Advisers. We had a great time bonding with the team!

FCCLA has almost 200,000 members and more than 4,700 chapters from 47 state associations, in addition to Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

FCCLA: The Ultimate Leadership Experience is unique among youth organizations because its programs are planned and run by members, and it’s the only career and technical in-school student organization with a central focus on careers that support families. Participation in national FCCLA programs and chapter activities helps members become strong leaders in their families, careers, and communities.

It is with great pleasure Mrs. Gulasy, Ms. Mueller, and Mr. Shun to welcome back our students! We are committed to ensuring the art students have a wonderful learning experience. All of our students are all smiles as they start off a great year!

Below in painting class, Oliver Paff is starting to paint his self portrait. Students in painting class have been learning about color theory, color schemes, and how to creatively use the color wheel in painting portraits.

In digital photography, students created a website for all their photography for the school year to be uploaded to. Below is a picture of 2023-2024 Digital Photography class. Ceramic students are really excited to learn how to create sculptural mugs/cups.

In other art news, art club this year will start August 31, 2023 in room 103 in Ms. Mueller’s room. You do not need to be enrolled in an art class to join this club. All students need to have a ride by 4 pm.

Our Intro to 2D, 3D, and Jewelry students finished the 2022-2023 school year strong, by showcasing their efforts and patience at the Spring Art show. Thank you to all who showed support for our artists. Catch a few examples of exhibited artwork below if you missed the show. The 2023-2024 year has started swiftly as we begin to learn about the elements of Art and perspective in the Intro to 2D class, while Jewelry students are practicing knotting techniques through friendship bracelets which will later translate to more intricate micro macrame pieces. Some students in Art Club began a landscape mural in the zen zone last spring and plan to complete it this fall.

Do you have any old, damaged photographs that you would like to be restored? Our Digital Design students may be able to help you out. They just finished working on their first project, photo restoration. There are several tools in Photoshop that are mainly designed to restore images, and the students learned the usage of them and fixed damaged photos. Although it was their first project to work on, they did a great job completing it. They will learn many techniques and gain a lot of knowledge throughout the year, and it helps them be creative and express themselves through art. I am excited to see their growth! As we begin the new year, I’m always impressed with how much Spanish my students have retained from over the summer, despite them saying otherwise. To help me get to know my students, I had them create slideshows and present them to the class. They shared these in Spanish and had many personal touches and pictures throughout their presentations. The presentations went very well and gave me hope for the amazing potential of this upcoming school year.

Mrs. Brown started off the year with a back to school escape room where the students reviewed math topics and found codes to escape one task and move on to another. The students reviewed solving equations, inequalities and the area of figures. Below is a picture of Tatum Johnson, Bradley Flowers and Nathan McFee. Tatum and Bradley were the winners of the escape room out of all the classes.

Currently in geometry the students are learning geometry terminology along with basic constructions. Below are pictures of students using a compass and ruler to construct perpendicular bisectors and angle bisectors.

Drama Department

The drama department is excited for our fall production of Christmas Story the Musical.

The Physical Education/Health Department is happy to introduce our new Athletic Trainer, Kyler Hendricks. He is married to our former AT, Sammy Hendricks, who will be greatly missed. They are expecting their first child, Ridge Michael, very soon. Kyler will also be teaching the athletic training class. Welcome, Kyler!

PE classes kicked off the year with track and softball units. The week of heat required fun in the mister and indoor wiffleball games. Mr. Sipe’s Strength and Conditioning classes are filled with 1st, 2nd and 3rd year students, many of whom are student-athletes. They will be spending four days a week in the weight room and one day working on speed and agility. The future looks bright!

Our department is excited to have added an ISHAA Officiating class being led by Mr. Stonefield. This course is provided for students in grades 11 and 12. They will study officiating requirements for sports and games with an emphasis on mechanics, rule interpretation, and enforcement. Students will be prepared for the licensing requirements to become an IHSAA licensed official.

In Biology 1 classes, the students participated in an Oxidation numbers lab, which had them determine the basic oxidation number of five different atoms using the periodic table of elements.

In Chemistry II, students are performing a variety of conversions between different units using dimensional analysis. Students are participating in an activity to see conversion factors through a variety of real-world examples.

In AP Chemistry, students are analyzing atoms and ions for their electron structure. Students are constructing photoelectron spectroscopy graphs and evaluating periodic trends based on the electrical structure of an atom and its relationship with Coulomb's Law.

Biomedical Science students are finishing studying human infections involving viruses, bacteria, protists, and fungi. Students are also making virus models.

Physics and Integrated Chemistry/Physics students are determining velocity, acceleration, and rates of movement through evaluations of graphs by solving for the area under the curve.

Chemistry I students spent the last few weeks analyzing atomic models and how they have changed over time. Students have also been working with isotopes and determining the number of protons, neutrons, and electrons in a given isotope.

Botany and zoology students have been analyzing the internal structure of leaves of their anatomy.

In Mr. Lewis' World History class, students are working on research papers on the Seven Ancient Wonders of the World as we examine early civilizations. In ACP Intro into American Politics class, we are now covering the beginnings of American political culture. In Sociology class, we have discussed the impact of technology and smartphones on the American workplace.

In Mr. Stonefield's Economics, we are currently going over the key fundamentals of economics. Students are learning about scarcity, opportunity costs, and weighing benefits vs. costs when making decisions. We will be analyzing production possibility graphs this week and students will participate in a productivity/efficiency simulation to learn about the importance of specialization early next week.

In Mr. Owen's AP European History course, we are studying the late Middle Ages and the Italian and Northern Renaissance. Students will be taking their first exam on September 5. Ask your student if this painting really is a big deal - and if so - why?

In Ivy Tech American History, the students have been examining the eras of Exploration and Colonization. We have also been learning how to write Argumentative Essays, and exploring the significance of concepts such as "Causation" and "Primary Source Document" analysis. Ask your student about how the existence of this invention helps to explain Benjamin Franklin's attitude towards Science and America's contributions to the European "Enlightenment".

Fall Sports Highlights

Our Fall sports teams are off to a great start this year across the board! Some key performances and noted victories include:

* The defending state champ football team is ranked #1 and is off to a 2-0 start with consecutive 42-7 victories over Lawrenceburg and Harrison (OH).

* The volleyball team is undefeated at home and is competing well against the better competition they are facing in various invitational competitions.

* Girls Soccer is off to an incredible start and ranked inside the top-10 in various polls, including #1 in Maxpreps.com poll. They have not allowed a single goal at the Varsity level thus far.

* Boys Soccer, hit hard by graduation last year is also having an incredible start to their season. They recently tied with Avon and defeated Franklin Community, two very talented and large schools.

* Co-Ed Cross Country have competed in (2) invitationals and the girls team has finished 1st in both with sophomore Callie Bentley winning both events. Additionally, the boys team is also showing well while Braydn Hatton has also won at the events.

* Girls Golf is having their best team success season in a very long time. They recently won the Madison Invitational, their first team win in 10+ years. Individually, sophomore Rowan Pies is proving to be one of the top golfers in the state. She has won or placed in the top-5 in every event they've played.
