We are fortunate that all of the public libraries that serve our community offer great “Summer Reading Challenges,” with fun themes, programs, events, and incentives. Members of the Elgin Partnership for Early Learning (EPEL) are visiting nine neighborhood parks each week this summer to provide free family engagement and early learning opportunities. These events are called Learning on the Go, and they are supported by community partners including the YWCA Elgin, School District U-46, Gail Borden Public Library, United Way of Metro Chicago, Elgin Township, and the Seigle Foundation.
Children get to participate in a read-aloud and receive new books and learning materials to build early math and literacy skills. Lunch is served at some sites. Library bookmobiles will visit so families can apply for library cards and check out books.

Save the date! The next Unite U-46 meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 20, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the U-46 Welcome Center, 1019 E. Chicago St., Elgin.
Unite U-46, which is a community engagement initiative, helped develop recommendations in 2022 and 2023 on the best way to implement the vision of the U-46 Board of Education. That work led to the passage of a zero-tax-rate-change bond proposal this past spring.
The next phase of this process will focus on keeping the entire U-46 community informed and engaged as plans and projects are confirmed.

Here are a couple of positions that we are highlighting:
Administrative Assistant to Assistant Superintendent of Equity and Innovation: This individual will assist with projects to improve diverse and equitable instructional and programmatic opportunities that meet students’ academic and social emotional needs and interests of the U-46 community.
Homebound Tutor: This position is for an educator who will teach K-12 students who are homebound. They will deliver teaching curriculum supplied by classroom teachers, special education teachers, and/or occupational therapists. They will also serve as an important point of contact between the parents, students, teachers, nurses, and counselors.
