The weekly U-46 Engage newsletter will be taking a break too.
If your child is enrolled in Summer Connection programming, you’ll hear more details from the principal of their building or in the case of community programming, the community partner. Questions can also be submitted via Let’s Talk.
Summer Reading Challenge
Did you know that research shows that children who read four or more books over the summer score higher in reading and math when they return to school?

Here’s info on those libraries, their locations, and links to their Summer Reading programs. If you haven’t already, sign your family up for one of these exciting Summer Reading Challenges today!

Learning on the Go
Members of the Elgin Partnership for Early Learning (EPEL) are visiting nine neighborhood parks each week this summer to provide free family engagement and early learning opportunities. These events are called Learning on the Go, and they are supported by community partners including the YWCA Elgin, School District U-46, Gail Borden Public Library, United Way of Metro Chicago, Elgin Township, and the Seigle Foundation.
Children get to participate in a read-aloud and receive new books and learning materials to build early math and literacy skills. Lunch is served at some sites. Library bookmobiles will visit so families can apply for library cards and check out books.
Find details on the park locations, dates and hours at elginpartnership.org/learning-go.
#U46Classof2023
Family members, friends, and U-46 employees turned out in large numbers on Saturday to celebrate the #U46Classof2023 during five graduation ceremonies held at the NOW Arena.
Later this week, we’ll share a video highlighting moments from the commencement ceremonies on our YouTube account and Facebook page.
In the meantime, visit our Class of 2023 page for a selection of photos, and
follow #U46Classof2023 on the District’s Facebook and Twitter accounts, too.
Unite U-46
Save the date! The next Unite U-46 meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 20, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the U-46 Welcome Center, 1019 E. Chicago St., Elgin.
Unite U-46, which is a community engagement initiative, helped develop recommendations in 2022 and 2023 on the best way to implement the vision of the U-46 Board of Education. That work led to the passage of a zero-tax-rate-change bond proposal this past spring.
The next phase of this process will focus on keeping the entire U-46 community informed and engaged as plans and projects are confirmed.
More information about June’s meeting, and upcoming sessions, will be posted at u-46.org/uniteu46.
Stay Connected
Even over summer break, there are several easy ways to stay connected to School District U-46:
Regularly visit your school’s website and the District’s website at u-46.org. It is easy to navigate and works well on mobile phones, tablets, and computers.
Have any questions, comments, suggestions, or kudos for U-46 staff? Let’s Talk! is the District’s online customer service tool where you can contact the District and schools and get a timely response.
During the school year, parents and guardians receive “U-46Engage: The Newsletter” every Wednesday night. It will be shared monthly in June and July.
Follow District U-46 on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube to get a variety of updates of what’s going on in the District and its schools.
Stay up to date with your student’s school with Infinite Campus. Check that your family contact information is up to date to make it easier for communication to flow between parents and teachers, school and District administrators.
