Dragon News
Findley Elementary School
April 16, 2021
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Greetings Findley Families,
What an absolute joy it has been to have kids back in our building. Teachers, staff and students have done an amazing job transitioning yet again to a new schedule, instructional model and routines. We thank you for your part in making that happen.
In the next week 3rd-5th grade families will be receiving information about Oregon State Assessment System (OSAS) testing. State testing this year will be opt in only. Third, fourth and fifth graders will have the opportunity to test in English Language Arts and Math. Fifth graders will also have the opportunity to test in Science. Due to the fact not all students in the state will be testing, percentile scores will not be used for TAG or Summa qualifications this year; they will however be made available to families for their information. Please be on the lookout for an interest survey coming from the Beaverton School District.
Although by and large our community has done an exceptional job, if you are bringing your kiddos in for In Person Hybrid, please be sure to read the arrival and dismissal procedures in this newsletter below thoroughly. These prodcedures are for everyone’s safety and we appreciate you following them to the best of your ability.
We have reached that time of year where we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. These next several weeks are going to fly by. Lots will be happening; Staff Appreciation, OSAS Testing, End of Year Festivities, I urge you to stay in contact with the school, your children’s teachers and each other to make sure you don’t miss out on anything.
Enjoy this sunny weekend! ☀️

Did you know?
Our office handles most of the day to day information flow through our school and they should be included in any emails regarding the following
- Attendance - CALL - 503.356.2100 option - leave a reason for absence
- Meal - opt-in / opt-out
- Go Home Plan changes
When in doubt, include the office, they will make sure that all parties that need specific information are made aware of changes. If your students teacher is out of school, this will also guarantee that the substitute is updated with the information necessary for that day.
Volunteers needed
We will be allowing volunteers into the building to assist with this task. Please make sure that you have your background checks completed prior to signing up for these times. We will need 2 volunteers daily 8am - 11am (hours can be flexible if needed)
We know many of you have reached out to find volunteer opportunities and are excited to have this need in our school.
COVID Testing
The Oregon Health Authority (OHA) supports COVID-19 testing in public and private K-12 schools in Oregon for students and staff who display symptoms of COVID-19. The Beaverton School District has registered to have Abbott BinaxNOW rapid antigen testing available for students and staff who develop primary symptoms of COVID-19 at school.
Primary symptoms of Covid-19 include:
- New or different than usual shortness of breath
- New or different than usual coughing
- Fever of 100.4 or higher
- New loss of taste or smell.
The Abbott BinaxNOW test will only be administered to students who have consent from their parent(s) or legal guardian on file. The student must be capable and willing to perform a nasal swab test independently. The parent(s) or guardian can decline testing and opt to test their child with a healthcare provider. If there is any doubt as to whether a specimen may be safely self-collected by an individual, they should be referred to their healthcare provider for COVID-19 testing. Positive test results will be shared with the Local Public Health Authority to assist in contact tracing.
If you would like your child to participate in this testing program, please complete and return the consent form to the school office. You can find the consent form at this link: https://www.beaverton.k12.or.us/departments/public-safety/emergency-preparedness/coronavirus/return-to-in-person-instruction/covid-19-health-safety-guidance under the COVID-19 Testing Information. For further information on the Abbot BinaxNOW rapid antigen test see the following link: FDA information on BinaxNOW test.
Arrival & Dismissal
- Stay on sidewalks except when crossing a driveway.
- Cross only at designated cross walks. We have Crossing Guards on duty at Thompson and Saltzman to assist students and parents cross these busy streets.
- Only Drop students off in the Thompson Parking Lot. Saltzman is not a safe exit from your car.
Arrival
Please leave your student at the Green Signs. This helps keep the number of people in the student walk ways to a minimum. We have MANY staff members and they will be wearing a Yellow Vest or holding a sign to help you see them.
Dismissal
Please stay in your car if you are driving to get your student. We will call your student forward when you get to the front of the line. This will help the car pick up area move more quickly. It will also reduce the number of adults waiting for students in the walking area.
Walkers that live west of Findley and do not have to cross at a crosswalk my be picked up at the Car Pick Up area. Please Stay in your care if you drive.
Bus Lane in front of the school.
We ask that parents NOT come down into the area in front of the school. Please use the sidewalk above the parking lot. If you need to bring a student further down the building, please use the upper sidewalk so that we can leave the sidewalks near the building open for students and staff to use safely.
